"After having a nightmare of a granite countertop install, I couldn't get the plumbing figured out on my own because the new sinks were so much deeper. After breaking the cleanout plug trying to get it off, it was time to call a plumber. No issue right? Wrong! I tried Angies List, no one would answer or return calls, and the two that did couldn't do it for a week at least. We were without a sink for 4 days already, so we decided to try Home Advisor. With others here doing the same, I called N & J's and they promised me they would get by the same day and fix the issue, that they were going to be in my area anyways. They told me they'd be by at 3, or sooner if they could, but would call me if it changed. I came home from work at 2:58, and they showed up 2 minutes later, right on time. I put the dogs out and let Anthony and his tech in. I showed the problem, showed pictures of the plumbing before, and what I had done already, I also showed them the parts I had picked up from Lowes. I can't say enough good about these guys, they were SUPER friendly, very courteous, and clean. REALLY clean. They not only fixed my problem in under an hour, they leak tested everything, opened it back up if it leaked and fixed it (including the garbage disposal adapter I had installed), tightened everything correctly (again, including water fittings for my faucet, checked the air gap I installed, and tightened the sink drain I installed too), and even used some of the parts I had picked up to save me money. They used some gaskets and parts they had on hand, and were complete professionals, teaching me some stuff during the process. They even used some of the tools I had sitting there when I offered instead of having to head out to the truck to get their own. In the end, it cost me $100, of which I tipped on top of because they were so friendly and helpful, and QUICK. I feel like I have a real plumber I can call on at any time. They cleaned up everything, took out the leftover garbage that I had sitting around, and packed up the extra parts and reciepts for me to return the unused material. I'm leaving Angies List, this company wasn't even shown there!"

"*Update from story below. I upped the rating I gave them because the owner of the company called me up personally and apologized and their insurance company took care of all the clean up and restoration. The owner is a stand up guy at least and made things right. I dont know if the two employees that messed up this job still work there so I did not recommend the company until I would have that information. Here is the original story... *I needed a company with a jetter to unclog drain. When I called on Friday, they quoted $150 for 2 hours for 2 people, if it goes over 2 hours, $75 more an hour. Made appt. for Monday. They call me Monday morning before coming out, they made a mistake, it is going to be $380-$400 for 2 hours and 2 people. The guy gets here around 10am. He hands me a quote on an iPads going to be $590 for hours and 2 people. (bait and switch?). We settle on $450 :( . Second guy does not get there for about another 1/2 hour. They started jetting around 10:50 when sewage water comes up out of the drain by the fridge. They did nothing to suck it up. They stopped the jetting and watched my wife and I try to mop up gallons of sewage water with one mop and bucket while trying to save furniture boxes, etc. I called my son to bring my wet/dry vac from across town because a mop and bucket would not cut it. They continued to do nothing to help. I was about done sucking up the major parts of water when the 1st guy comes to me (about 1.5 hours of when he got there) and says it is gong to be another hour and if I want cleaning, it is going to now cost almost $800. By then I had a company called ******** ******** there with cleaning/disinfect/sanitizing machines ready to clean. I replied on paying for the cleaning. So they started jetting again (without helping clean or suck up the mess they made) and it unclogged within a couple of minutes while I stood there and sucked out the sewage from the source. Unclogged and done. Everything is a mess. After he tells me the bill with his iPad and says it is $590, I ask him if he was going to clean and charge me for it, how was he going to suck up 25-30 gallons of sewage water... He then says We have a wet/dry vac in the van. I then tell him. You mean to tell me that you could have sucked this sewage water out at the source when you were jetting preventing all this mess. He mumbled something under his mask and then lowered the bill to $450 plus tax. I have called a restoration company (walls, vanities, etc... are going to have to come out, claims it may cost thousands of dollars). I had to call a carpet company to come an clean and sanitize. Bottom line, if these two employees of this company had done their job and used their equipment to suck out the sewage at the source, this negligence caused by their company could have been avoided. Its been 2 days since this happened and no one from their company has reached out to us to help with this clean up or mess. We have all this on video and we are seeking legal advice at this point. My advice for everyone out there would be to steer clear from this company."

"Eli and his co-worker were prompt, courteous, clean and professional on every aspect of my evaporative cooler R&R&Repair Job. They hooked us up with a roofer to finish some touchup work around the cooler, ruined shingles and what not, and after Eli found out I was a military veteran he offered a military discount to us, which we graciously accepted. Job Eli quoted was very competitive and affordable, esp in these times of high inflation. We were stressing out over getting this much-needed job done but were saved by Eli and his efficient expertise, and were back up and running that same day. We are now ready to tackle the hot summer in style! We highly recommend Chico's Mechanical for any job and expect to call them for any service we may need in the future. Thank you Eli!"

"Came out for an estimate within 45 minutes of me calling, without an emergency fee. Estimate was hundreds less than other estimates I was given. Were able to schedule a water heater install the same day I called and got the estimate. Very quick, professional and left the work area clean. Will use again."

"Title: Exceptional, trustworthy plumbing — highly recommended Galactic Mechanical & Plumbing exceeded every expectation. After a frustrating runaround with other companies, Jordan drove up from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, waived the trip charge, and quickly diagnosed that I only needed a faucet fixture (not a full sink). He went to Home Depot, installed the new fixture, fixed a few other small issues, and left everything working — all billed fairly for one hour of labor. Jordan was professional, efficient, and honest; Megan in the office was courteous and helpful. As a longtime local with two homes, I’m already planning to use Galactic as my go-to plumber. Highly recommend them for reliable, respectful, and skilled service. Thank you, Jordan."

"The crew did the job, digging up and replacing 40 ft of main water line from the city line to the house, including installation of a pressure reducing valve. Overall COST was pretty expensive for labor considering the PEX tubing for the water line was the pretty much the only parts needed minus the pressure valve. I realize they go by a book that determines cost before work is actually done, though and I agreed to it. Kinda hard to get other estimates when you are in a pickle and need water in your home going asap during the holidays. Job got done and the 2 workers were nice guys. One complaint is I asked if there was a Veteran's Discount and they did include it but it was LESS THAN a 3% discount off the subtotal. Taking a star off for this and another for high labor cost."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.

Costs range from $200 to $600, depending on the severity of the blockage and access difficulty.

If used correctly and sparingly, root killer shouldn’t damage your pipes. Make sure to follow the instructions on the back of the bottle or the company’s website to avoid any unintended damages. However, when it comes to copper sulfate, it’s better to avoid it. This type of root killer can damage your plumbing and the surrounding environment.

There are a few things that can happen to your sewer system if you don’t fix it. These include rainwater entering it and causing rust and corrosion, dirt and debris leading to blockages, small animals getting stuck inside and clogging your sewer line or entering your home, and shortening the sewer system’s life span.

Without a cap, nothing prevents toxic and non-toxic gasses like methane and hydrogen sulfide from slowly escaping your sewer system and entering your home and the surrounding atmosphere, resulting in a foul sewer odor throughout your house.

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.
