"Taz is our go-to contractor, because they are problem-solvers, detail-oriented, and just generally do a terrific job on both large and small projects. At our house (at different times) Taz has done structural work for us; fully renovated our kitchen; installed a pocket door on a tiny 1/2 bathroom; fixed the walls and floor in a formerly useless closet; and, tore out a huge mess of a mechanical room, turning it into useful, attractive storage space. They deliver on time (including amazingly short timeframes) and on budget (as much as any contractor can be, given the fluctuation in material costs over the past few years). They do a terrific job of minimizing mess and displacement for the homeowner and pets. Would never use anyone else but Anthony and his talented crew. He may sometimes cost more than other contractors, but you get what you pay for - you may find cheaper, but you will NOT find better. And when Anthony does the work, he stands behind it, while others don't."

"We were moving to Albuquerque from Michigan and needed many things improved in our new home before we arrived. I used HomeAdviser (which I trust implicitly!) to find a contractor. I needed electrical expertise, glorified handyman work, plumbing, painting interior and exterior and drywall repair work. The project manager sent the right team for each job -- whether it's replacing the kitchen sink, disposal, faucet or taking down a broken exterior gate and refurbishing it to its original authentic look, TAZ Construction has not let me down. They arrive when they say and leave a clean, neat work area at the end of their job. I continue to call on them for all my around the house jobs. They've proven to be honest, cost-effective and skilled in the areas I've needed them for. A great find!"

"I have had previous projects done by licensed and non-licensed contractors. I appreciate and am extremely satisfied with the work done by Marcos from Maintenance Relief LLC. He came to do the work in a timely manner and was very thorough with all maintenance work that was needed. He accomodated and worked with me in a very professional manner. I would not hesitate for future work to call and have him come back and do other projects around my house. Thank you, Marcos."

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

Albuquerque's dry climate and intense sun make UV-resistant paints, weatherproof caulks, and high-quality insulation essential for handyman projects. Choose materials rated for desert environments to prevent premature wear. The City of Albuquerque's Building Safety Division recommends using rust-resistant fasteners and energy-efficient products to handle temperature swings and dust. Investing in these supplies helps your home repairs last longer and reduces maintenance needs.

Helpful?

In Albuquerque, most handyman projects involving structural, electrical, or plumbing work require permits from the City of Albuquerque Planning Department. Minor repairs or cosmetic updates may not need permits, but it's important to verify with the Planning Department before starting. For regulated trades, only licensed professionals registered with the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department can obtain permits, ensuring all home repairs meet local safety codes.

Helpful?

Homes in Albuquerque with adobe or stucco exteriors, flat roofs, or older evaporative coolers often benefit from handyman service projects. Look for signs like cracked stucco, drafty windows, outdated fixtures, or persistent plumbing leaks. If your property has aging electrical outlets or doors that stick due to settling, it’s a good time to consider home repairs and property maintenance to keep your home in top shape.

Helpful?

In Albuquerque, unexpected costs may arise from uncovering deeper issues like water damage behind stucco, outdated wiring in older homes, or corroded plumbing from mineral-rich water. Shipping specialty materials for Southwestern-style repairs can also add time and complexity. Permit fees and seasonal fluctuations in material availability may affect your project, so it’s wise to build in extra time and flexibility for property maintenance.

Helpful?

DIY home repairs in Albuquerque can save money, but local codes and climate challenges can complicate projects. Hiring a local handyman ensures compliance with city regulations and brings experience with regional materials. For tasks requiring permits or specialized skills, the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department recommends using licensed professionals to avoid safety risks and costly mistakes. Always weigh your expertise, project complexity, and local requirements.
