This provider came across as very conscientious, punctual, and responsive at first, but once the job began things started to go downhill. He shot blasted and vacuumed the recreation room in preparation for epoxy, and then moved onto the bathroom. There was a fair amount of thin set on the bathroom floor from previous tile that required him to grind the floor. He promised a clean work space, but instead blew concrete dust all over the lower level of the house including upholstered furniture, a desk with computer and other electronics, the television, all of my children's toys, etc. He didn't tarp anything, tape anything off, or prepare the area for such a mess! When I approached him about it he was annoyed and stated that he would clean up. He did a light dusting of flat surfaces only before he left so I cleaned as much as I could before he arrived the next day. My furniture will need to be steam cleaned!
The next day, I asked him if our belongings should be covered so as to avoid further dust and he said that there was no need. I came into his work area a little while later to retrieve an item from my desk and he told me to cover my face because what he was mixing was not healthy to breathe in yet this white fluffy stuff was flying out of the bucket and landing on my furniture and the kids' toys again! I told him to stop and pointed out that again he was blowing debris around my house and if it wasn't healthy to breathe in then perhaps he should be mixing it outside! He became angry and told me that he couldn't talk about it at that moment, that he had to finish what he was doing. I became very angry and sent my husband in to deal with him. My husband instructed him to clean up and seemed to make peace with him. So, the job continued.
The following day I had another contractor who deals with a different type of flooring in my house to provide an estimate for a floor restoration (a type of flooring that Uhl Stonework does not service). Mr. Uhl verbally grilled the other contractor on what he was going to do to restore the floor. It was an awkward situation. Mr Uhl became angry and followed the other contractor out to his car. Again, I confronted Mr. Uhl and told him that this behavior was unacceptable. He promised that it wouldn't happen again and we both agreed that there was a lot of stress in his own life as well as outside construction on our property at this time therefore making the job stressful. We tried our best to be understanding, and have open communication with Mr. Uhl to no avail.
The epoxy coating on the rec room floor bubbled and he did a quick, unsatisfactory job of "fixing" it. Mr. Uhl stated that if we wanted another coat of epoxy to fix the floor it would cost another $1000 and he wouldn't be able to do it for another 3 weeks as he had other jobs to get to that he would not put off. The bathroom floor was unacceptable- bubbles, sharp raised areas, it is bumpy and rough and needs to be removed. He promised us smooth floors and failed to deliver on his promise.
We notified Mr. Uhl of our dissatisfaction. He did call my husband in a timely fashion, but then verbally assaulted him by cursing at him and calling him derogatory names.
This man is not professional. He is sloppy, cuts corners, and has an unpredictable demeanor. His finished product is sub par and he offers no solutions. Please, do yourself a favor and do not hire him!
"Uhl Stonework & Epoxy Floors, LLC. was under contract with [member name removed], (the customer), to do many projects at his home. We are currently disputing this matter due to customer dissatisfaction with materials he chose himself. Our response is that we never cut any corners, but the customer had a tight budget and did not want to pay for all the materials he was asking for. The customer wanted high priced materials for cheap prices. $8,000 was the total budget for the many projects to be done for the customer. Uhl Stonework & Epoxy Floors, LLC. was only ever given one check for $4,000 to cover the cost of the materials and the Excavator machine. There was no money left over which we could profit from. Our profit came strictly from labor, which we never were able to collect from the customer. Customer did not want to pay labor costs for removal of a 7 thousand pound retaining wall that was reinforced with steel and concrete. We installed this wall with the material of his choosing, rail-road ties, which he had 3 days too look at in his yard. When we installed 75% of the 7 + thousand pound wall, he decided he did not like the material and asked us to remove it free of charge and replace it with a different material also free of charge. The wall was at no point leaning and was reinforced with steel and concrete and was not going anywhere unless we cut all the steel rebar out, etc. $4,000 was paid by the customer to us up front to cover the cost of the materials needed for all of his projects. The materials were delivered to the customers home before the beginning of the project and they never left the premises even after we left the job. We never damaged any property and we could not finish any of the projects due to the customer changing his mind everyday and constantly interrupting labor. It became obvious he had never had a clear idea of what he truly wanted done to his home on his budget. Every time we started a project he wanted to add something else to it but he would not pay the extra cost for materials or labor. We would discuss these matters everyday. We explained how he would be going over budget with these additions and he would ask how we could cut corners for his budget. We never agreed to cut corners in any way that would jeopardize our reputation, safety, or break regulations/codes. These accusations were made by the customer as an act of anger due to the fact that we could no longer do work for this person as it became clear he was never going to pay us, or at least not in full for all the work we had done and would have done. The work we had completed was the hardest part of the job, clearing debris, excavating, digging, etc. Anyone he would have hired after the work we had done would have had an easier time since we completed the hardest part of his projects. We are currently awaiting trial with [member name remvoed] and we are saddened that any customer would have had this kind of reaction to their own decision making processes. We regret that we could not complete our work but we had to protect our the best interest of our company at that point. We have many customers and references that are more that completely satisfied with our work and were pleased by our friendly personality. We always work with the customer as much as possible and we dedicate ourselves to hard work and excellence. Thank you for seeing both sides of the story and as always, we hope to do business for you soon. References will be supplied if needed."
