"The service was excellent. Locks are working better than they ever have. The locksmith was friendly, professional, timely, and did fast excellent work. They also saved me money, as when I first contacted them, I was seeking to replace, rather than simply repair, the affected doorknobs and deadbolts. After diagnosing the problem, they advised me that the house had merely settled a bit, but that the hardware was of good quality and still in working order with a little adjustment, and that I could save a lot by not having to replace the hardware. What they charged me was extremely reasonable. They came out the day after I called. I highly recommend this company."

"Excellent service and responsiveness from start to finish. Couldn't ask for a more professional experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Goings Safe and Lock for any locksmith work - 110% positive interaction. Arrived right on time, explained what he would be doing before starting, explained anticipated charges after reviewing the needed work, and cut the new keys before leaving."

"I hired them to do a lot of odd jobs around the house.  During the estimate Jason fixed the crawl space door and showed me how to fix some of my doors for no cost.  I still hired him to do more work to be done next week.  This honesty was great!

"We were very pleased with the service. Joe arrived in less than 30 minutes, late in the evening on a cold Sunday night. He confirmed that we were the residents and assessed the door. He was not able to get us in the front door (explained later) so he went to the back where he had to pick 2 locks to get us in. Upon leaving we discovered that we still couldn't open the front door from the inside. He used tools to open the door from the inside (which he said he had never seen before) and then examined the door to determine the locking mechanism had broken when we left the house, locking the door from both sides and leaving the door handle unattached. He could have just let us in and left, but he took the extra time to uncover the culprit. He offered to stay and fix the door but being so late, we agreed to wait."

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

It’s possible, but depends on the design of your lock. Some door locks that lack a keyhole do boast a small hole on the exterior handle or knob. This hole’s primary function is to allow water to drain out of the lock, in addition to giving homeowners an easy spot to insert lubrication. However, you can typically use a paperclip in this pinhole to unlock the door by manipulating the mechanism inside.

It depends on what type of keyless entry it is and if the locksmith has the proper tools to remove a keypad entry lock since some are more advanced than others. However, locksmiths can typically work around keyless entries to vehicles, so it depends on what type of keyless entry system needs opening.

Find a vetted and trusted locksmith to work on your home so you can feel comfortable and safe. Hire a professional with these qualifications:

  • Search a verified directory of locksmiths near you, like those on Angi.

  • Check for an Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) logo on their website or company logo.

  • Read company reviews. You can also check their social media pages.

  • Ask for a pro’s credentials, insurance, licensure, and customer testimonials.

  • Check if the locksmith is knowledgeable about various topics, from decorative locks to the newest technologies on the market.

Security systems are one of the measures that deter burglars the most. Research suggests most burglars look for signs of a security system before going in, although the presence of a security system doesn’t automatically mean they won’t enter the home. However, a security system with cameras can decrease the chance of a burglary overall.

If you don’t have your original key, the easiest way to obtain a copy is to call a locksmith. For house keys, your locksmith has several options for configuring a new key:

  • They can input a lock’s identification code into a database to obtain key-cutting instructions.

  • They could analyze the lock cylinder to determine how to cut a new key.

  • They can create an impression of the lock cylinder from which to cut a new key.
