"I went on Angie's List to see which pool service provider had the best ratings.  Though I traditionally have used the same contractor that installed my pool, I decided to go with the provider that had the highest ratings on Angie's List.  Happily, I was very happy with the service provided.  Last fall, Scott the owner sent out some employees to measure the precisely measure the pool.  In the early Spring, AquaHaven (AH) came back to make sure the measurements were correct.  AH sent me information via e-mail as to the different styles and types of liners that they carried.  I scheduled AH to come back in the Spring do install the liner.  AH set up a sump pump the day before installation to drain the pool.  It took approximately 10 hours to drain 18,000 gallons.  The pump was submerged and had a cut off switch so I really did not have to do anything.  Two highly skilled and professional workers showed up promptly at 8:00 a.m. the next day and finished draining the pool.  They then worked quickly to remove the old liner, prepare the metal sides and redo the flooring and walls of the pool.  Some of the pool floor and walls had deteriorated over the past 12 years so the workers quickly redid the entire damaged services leaving the pool floor and walls smooth.  The new vinyl liner was then put in place.  The workers were careful not to damage the pool floor which they had just repaired.  Once the liner was put in place, they put in vacuum blowers to remove any excess air and began filling the pool with water.  They then cleaned up completely hauling away the old liner, debris and any equipment they had brought.  After filling the pool floor with sufficient water to cover the first steps, AH came back the next day to remove the vacuum blowers.  The pool is now completely filled with water and is beautiful.
The pool liner cost approximately $1,500 and the labor, other material and tax ran around $2,700.  This was similar in cost to other contractors.  Scott, the owner, checked with me by phone the next day to see if everything was okay.
I believe AH provided excellent service and an excellent product.  I would highly recommend them for this type of work in the future.

"I was extremely pleased with the recent work that RB Landscaping performed for us. They provided a creative design for a patio on our sloping yard and closed in an area underneath our porch. The schedule they provided was on time and efficiently done. The work crew was professional, efficient, and cleaned the area each day. I will say that the patio and enclosure exceeded my expectations. I would certainly use them again and would recommend them to friends and family."

"I decided that I wanted a standby electric generator for my house. Not knowing anything about generators, I began looking for advice on exactly what I should purchase. After talking to several electrical contractors, Tri-City was obviously the most knowledgeable on the subject. Chad (of Tri-City) helped me choose the right generator for my situation, with no promise that I would use him to do the installation. He and his brother Jason came by here to look at my situation and didn't try to get me to commit to anything or try the old trick of "We'll knock off the charge for the estimate when we do the installation". After I had chosen a generator and had it delivered, (I got it from electricgeneratorsdirect.com), Chad and Jason came out here and built a wood-framed gravel pad, made sure it was level and attractive, then moved the generator from my garage and placed it on the pad and did all the connections that were possible before the gas company came to perform some necessary modifications. After the gas was hooked up, they returned and completed the installation. Not only did they do an outstanding job, they stayed around for a couple hours testing it to make sure it was working properly. I no longer have to think about who I will call when I need anything electrical done! These guys are head and shoulders above any other electrical contractor I was able to find!"

"I highly recommend Brad We were in the process of selling our home and had to open repair and resurface our gunite pool that was 30 years old. He was able to drain the pool safely from all the debris, and repair any damage concrete, resurface and painted the pool. He also replaced the motor on the filter and re-piped all the pool lines. This was a huge job as the pool had not been opened in 4 years. He worked with our budget and was able to complete the entire job at a very reasonable cost ."

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

Any number between 7.2 and 7.8 is an ideal pH for swimming pools or 80 to 120 ppm. Your pool testing kit should be able to measure both of these numbers. If your pool’s pH is below this range, the water is too acidic and can cause scaling and damage to pool equipment. If the water’s pH is above this range, it can decrease the effectiveness of necessary chemicals, like chlorine.

An easy way to know whether your sand filter has enough sand is to check how full the filter is and what the sand looks and feels like. The filter container should be two-thirds to three-quarters full of sand. Look for interior marks indicating the ideal sand level. If you put your hand into the sand, it should flow through your fingers without clumping. The filter pressure gauge is also an easy indicator—the right amount of sand leads to normal pressure, while too much or too little sand can cause high or low pressure.

If you don’t bond a pool, you risk electric shock for those walking around or swimming. Bonding creates safe pathways between the electricity needed to run the pool and metallic parts also necessary for the proper function of the pool. Once the pool is bonded, it’s ready for grounding, the second step in creating an electrically safe pool.

The total time to install an inground pool typically ranges from 8 weeks to 4 months. This timeline can be influenced by several factors, including permitting, site preparation, and the construction process itself.

Key phases and their typical durations include:

  • Permits: Obtaining necessary permits can take anywhere from two to six weeks.

  • Excavation and Site Preparation: This phase takes about a week but can be extended by problematic soil, unexpected ground conditions, or the need to move underground utility lines.

  • Construction: The actual build, including plumbing and electrical work, often takes one to two months. The pool material is a major factor here; a concrete pool needs about 30 days to cure, while installing a fiberglass or vinyl liner is much faster.

External factors can also cause significant delays:

  • Contractor Availability: Spring and summer are busy seasons, and high demand can lead to long waitlists, potentially adding months to your start date. It is often recommended to start planning and getting estimates up to a year in advance.

  • Other Delays: Weather, material shortages, complex designs, and other unforeseen challenges can extend the project timeline.

In combination with adequate filtering and water chemical balance, vacuuming will keep your pool from being overrun with algae. If your pool is experiencing algae growth, the same combination will get rid of it with a bit of patience. Heavy algae growth may require the use of an algaecide, and in some cases, you’ll want to vacuum the pool 24 to 48 hours after using algaecide to remove dead algae debris.
