"Expert Tree Service did an excellent job. Walter and his team were professional from the quote to the clean-up after the trees were removed. He and the office staff were patient and kind when I needed to delay the job for a couple of weeks. I highly recommend Expert Tree Service and I would definitely hire them again!"

"This is the third time I've hired A+ Tree and Crane services. This time I had a large oak tree removed. It was in a difficult to reach area (equipment-wise), but the crew managed to take it down flawlessly. From start to finish the process was excellent. Kenny the estimator arrived as scheduled and was able to fit me into their schedule two days later. The crew arrived promptly and the entire job was finished in under two hours. I highly recommend A+ and will definitely hire them in the future!"

"Oscar's Tree Service provided a very competitive quote. They were able to work my job into a very tight timeframe and did excellent work. They avoided nearby landscaping when removing the tree and left the yard as clean as when they started. I would highly recommend them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In Durham, most tree removal projects on private property require a permit if the tree is over 8 inches in diameter, as outlined by the City of Durham Urban Forestry Division. Heritage trees, defined as those over 24 inches, are subject to additional protections and review. For any tree trimming or removal involving street trees or public rights-of-way, a separate permit from Durham Public Works is necessary. Always consult an ISA Certified Arborist and verify requirements with local authorities before starting.

Helpful?

In Durham, homeowners often encounter unexpected costs related to tree service, such as permit fees required by the City of Durham Urban Forestry Division, stump grinding, or specialized disposal of large debris. If underground utilities are present, locating services may be necessary. Additional expenses can arise if tree cutting reveals disease or structural issues. Request a detailed, written estimate and clarify all potential add-ons with your contractor before work begins.

Helpful?

In Sarasota, frequent mistakes include neglecting to secure required permits, improper pruning techniques like "topping" and delaying hurricane preparation. Homeowners sometimes hire unlicensed contractors, risking non-compliance with City of Sarasota regulations. Over-mulching or planting too close to structures can also cause long-term issues. Consulting certified arborists and referencing the Sarasota County Tree Ordinance can help you avoid these pitfalls.

Helpful?

In Durham, tree service professionals should follow ANSI A300 and OSHA safety standards, using protective equipment like hard hats, safety glasses, and cut-resistant gloves. Only trained personnel should operate chainsaws or perform tree cutting near power lines. The Durham Fire Department recommends keeping a safe perimeter to protect bystanders. Hiring a contractor with documented safety protocols and proper insurance is essential for peace of mind during tree removal or tree trimming.

Helpful?

In Durham, be wary of tree service providers who offer vague or unusually low estimates, refuse to show proof of liability insurance, or lack credentials from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture. Avoid contractors who pressure you for immediate decisions or request full payment upfront. The City of Durham Urban Forestry Division recommends choosing professionals with local references, written contracts, and a clear understanding of permit requirements for tree removal or tree trimming.
