Above ground pools are not buried in the ground. Typically, above ground pools are semi-permanent. One reason they’re more affordable is that you don’t have to dig for an inground pool and pour concrete or another material. However, you can choose to install a semi inground pool, which is a hybrid between the two.

After you fill in your pool, you can add trees and plants that help stabilize the soil. You might decide not to fill it in at all and find another use for the sunken area instead. A few ideas include creating a seating area or garden inside the empty pool. Depending on its size, you could create a place to roller-skate or install basketball hoops for an unconventional court.

Winterizing your above ground pool is essential if you live in a colder climate. When water freezes, it expands. This can damage and crack pool equipment like your pipes, pumps, hoses, and liner. In some extreme cases, it can warp the pool walls and cause your pool to collapse. 

Beyond that, winterizing your pool prevents the buildup of algae and bacteria, reduces the amount of scale and staining, and keeps out debris. This way, things are easier to get back up and running when it’s finally swim season.
