"I hired Randy for several projects around my house. Exterior trim repair/replacement, front railing repair, exterior painting, interior painting, window screen replacement and installation of two storm doors. He delivered quality work and finished everything in a timely manner. Highly recommend."

"Our salesman, Nathan was very informative and helpful through our whole project. Erica kept us informed about installing schedule. Even with delays, Erica made sure I had the latest information and never hesitate to call. Our installer for the shower was very polite and made sure he had all supplies. He installed the shower in one day. The counter top was installed three days later. The installer was polite and even came up with solutions when the installed plumbing needed adjustments."

"The sales guy seemed pretty new and there was a point that he called his supervisor and the call was on speaker and seemed staged. The supervisor was very degrading and spoke very condescendingly to the salesman and it really put a bad taste in our mouth. The carpet installers seemed good though"

"Monte was recommended by a neighbor and we’ve been extremely happy with his work. He has done 4 jobs for us over the last few years including installing backsplash tile in a kitchen, shower and floor tile in two bathrooms, and floor tile in a laundry room and half bath. The largest job was a master bathroom remodel where he did the demo work, tiled the floor and shower area, painted the entire room which included some difficult and hard to reach areas, installed a tub and toilet and put in new baseboards. Monte is excellent at his work – he’s a bit of a perfectionist which is what you want in someone who is working on your home. He is experienced, knowledgeable, pleasant to be around, dependable, and reasonably priced. We highly encourage you to give Monte a call! You will be glad you did!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.
