"Dean and his team did a fantastic job removing an existing backsplash and installing a new glass tile backsplash. It was a tricky project and the lead craftsman (Antonio) did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely hire them again!"

"*** Update. After talking with Pat at Four Seasons, they have to decided to make things right. Our windows are now going to be replaced with windows with grids. The gutters have been fixed. Everything has been fixed. Advised Pat of the major lack of communication from the sales team. Buyer beware!!! This is the second time that I have worked with Four Seasons, and will probably be the last. I called to have new fascia, soffit, and gutters installed. I told the salesman that the fascia bored was rotting in several places. He also told me I should order windows as they are having a big sale because of covid, so I did. I was told that the soffit, fascia, gutters would be done in 2 weeks. They showed on the 4th week, and the only reason they showed up then is because my constant asking when they would be out. The installed the fascia over the rotten parts. I called before they were done and the owner came out and said that would be an extra charge but we will replace the parts that are not done. They left the stuff they already cover up. When the guy came out to measure for the windows we were asked if we wanted grids or not. I told him we wanted grids. When the widows showed up they did not have the grids. My salesman said he could fix it, but it would cost $191 per window to fix it. Also, after the gutters got installed, my wife heard the installer say "wont be the first job for me to get called back to fix a job." One of the downspouts is installed incorrectly. I noticed it the next day. Here almost 2 weeks later and it is not fixed. Be very careful when ordering through them and make sure you double check the work before they leave. The communication between costumer and sales is not lacking. W I wished we had the other sales person we used before. He is no longer with the company."

"Colin did a fantastic job replacing a tile floor in our master bathroom. The job required removal of existing tiles and replacing the backing subfloor. Everything was done within the expected budget and time frame. We would call on them again for ourr next tiling pro."

Small jobs welcome

"This was my first experience with hiring a contractor to perform a number of projects to be done one after another (complete tear down and replacement in shower area (tile, shower door, shower pan, plumbing, etc.; removal of popcorn on multiple variable height ceilings, installation of ceramic floors in 2 bathrooms, etc) . Everything went real good and looks beautiful. So good I decided to have the tile and fixtures in the bathtub area in another bathroom totally redone and called Conway Construction again. Once again, everything turned out very nice."

"Mad City did a fantastic job. They removed my old bathtub and tile and installed a beautiful bath surround. I chose Arctic Ice for the pattern. It is beautiful. Love the practicality of the easy-to-clean surface. The faucet and grab bars are attractive, too. I got the metal shelves, which I like a lot. Highly recommend!"

"We have had our basement walls stabilized, a full sump system installed and our garage floor and driveway stabilized. All work was fully described prior to contract signing and performed as described. All their staff have been very polite, knowledgeable and professional. They may not be the least expensive but we are fully satisfied with all their work. I recommend."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.
