"The purchasing and customization of the home security system went very smooth.  The sales rep Warren was very helpful and accommodating in substituting the equipment included in the package for ones that suited our needs better.  The only issue was that there was a mailing address error.  When I said the word "Eagle" in my street address, Warren recorded the word "ego," which ended up delaying the arrival for a day or two. Funny, but honest mistake.  Having on-line access to the account really helps.  That how I notice the error in the first place.  Set up was easy; however, they should include a picture or measurements of the magnet parts that come with the sensors.  They have a particular shape that won't always fit certain door or window trims. Everything else was a breeze.  I recommend getting the touch screen panel.  The thing is pretty cool.  The monitoring has been good so far.  Of course these are the type of things you hope never to have to use."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Insurance might cover a 30-year-old roof, but it’s fairly rare. Most companies don’t offer coverage for roofs older than 20 years, but certain robust plans will handle it. However, even if the plan offers coverage for an aged roof, it could be diminished. Many plans only cover the original cost or the actual cash value (ACV) of the roof once enough time has passed. ACV is based on the roof's age and condition at the time of repairs.

Yes, your roof will leak if you have missing or damaged shingles. Severely damaged or missing shingles are essentially holes in your roof, leading to water seeping into your attic and ceilings. The underlayment underneath your roofing is a secondary form of protection, so you should fix shingle damage and replace missing ones as quickly as possible.

Chimney caps have a solid top but perforated sides so smoke can exit safely. If rain or snow falls downward, chimney caps can protect the chimney’s interior. Just note that if rain or snow blows in sideways, there’s a higher likelihood it will enter the chimney—but it's not often a cause for concern as long as you have a cap.

In most cases, yes, you will need to be home while your roof inspector checks your roof. The inspector will be able to complete the exterior assessment without input from you, but they will also need access to your attic space to look for signs of leaking, like pest infestation, water stains, mold growth, and visible holes leading to the exterior. They will also check the roof trusses, rafters, and supports to confirm their structural integrity. Roof inspections usually take between two and three hours, so plan accordingly.

Roof blistering and hail damage are different in their physical appearance. Blistering, often caused by inadequate ventilation, low-quality material, and improper installation, looks like large, irregular bubbles popping out of your roof. Meanwhile, hail damage is usually circular or oval dents entering your roof and often follows the same path as the hail storm.
