Small jobs welcome

"I searched through Home Advisor for a plumber. My Service Pro came up and Mark called back in 5 minutes. Set a time later that day to install a sump pump. The job was completed in time with better equipment than I had in in the first place. He also installed a motor for an air exchanger that I had but had been unable to find one of the "big firms" to do. He's a master plumber, but also a first class individual. John S."

"We had an intermittent leak in the bathroom sink that was very frustrating. They quickly located the problem and proposed two options to solve the problem. One option not only solved the leak problem, but also resolved problems with the existing sink installation. We opted for the option to solve both problems. Problems were quickly corrected and we are extremely satisfied with the results. Good job!"

"Dave did a fabulous job with installing our sump pump & dehumidifier. He had to come back the second day to finish but he did an exceptional job. I had questions while he was installing and he answered everything so I totally understood how everything works."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

Common problems include motor failure, clogged discharge lines, and float switch malfunctions. Regular maintenance prevents many issues.

A sump pump should be placed at least three feet deep in a pit. The rim of the sump pump basin should be level with your basement floor. If you find your pit is too deep, you can fill the bottom with gravel until the rim of the sump pump is flush with the floor.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.
