Customers say: Quality work

"Bill called me shortly after I sent out my request to home advisor. They came to work the second day. It turned out to be a touch project. The fireplace floor had to be removed and new 4-6'' of concrete footing was poured. Dave reinstalled fireplace brick in fireplace walls carefully like an artist. It took them extra long hours to complete the job, but they left a beautiful fireplace to me without asking for any extra money."

"John along with the other guy came the day i called them to give an estimate and through out the whole time he has communicated how long its going to take , take the old frame and get the new glass and out it back. Everything was done in a day. Was right on time. I highly recommend him and would definitely hire him if we have to. Of course i don't want another broken window :) (it was broken when the kids were playing baseball )."

"We had an old fireplace which we wanted to give a new contemporary look to. We knew exactly what we wanted but wanted to do it under the budget. After speaking to 3 different companies, we went ahead with D& S masonary...Sean was the reason we chose this place. Not only is he personable, but also very professional . He tried his best to keep our budget on track and delivered a great service. His team was also very courteous and professional. I have to mention Greg who completed the odd ends exactly per our liking. Also, since this project was done in the middle of winter, there were days which were completely snowed in but these guys made sure they came to finish their work. A wonderful team and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Sean, Jennifer and Greg to anyone looking for Masonary work."

"Appointment was scheduled for a quote. A gentleman (Tim) arrived at the precise scheduled time. Prior to assessing the exterior of our home Tim took time to sit down with us to obtain an understanding of precisely what we wanted. After verbalizing our desires and expectations Tim took measurements and provided an estimate. Prior to signing a contract Tim voluntarily provided his suggestions with his clearly evident expertise. There was not any pressure. After interviewing several other companies there was not any doubt Thermal Shield was the choice due to the integrity that was exhibited during our initial visit. When Thermal Shield was then contacted to return to review the initial quote Tim returned and a start date was scheduled. While waiting for the start date Tim called just to follow up and make sure the date was still convenient. The Thermal Shield team arrived punctually each morning and each member had a specialty and hit the ground running. The guys were very professional and took a great deal of pride in their work. The job was completed in the time targeted; approx. five days. While the job was being completed Tim called each day and stopped by to make sure we were satisfied. Due to our home being older, built in 1927 we have dealt with our share of contractors, some not so good. I am sometimes apprehensive with the reviews wondering if they are truly customers. Let me tell you we struck gold with the Thermal Shield team! The final price was precisely as quoted. The code enforcer was by today to perform his final inspection and said "He has been doing inspections for many years and has never performed an inspection which consisted of such quality work" that is a quote. We cannot say enough about how satisfied and lucky we are we chose Thermal Shield.

"I went well. Professional. Friendly. Quality work. Was able to do work promptly after scheduling. Gutters looked beautiful. Used very quality gutter guards installed with no gaps or holes. Crew took time to make sure the job was done right and even went so far as to fix problems my roofers ignored and covered up. Couldn't be happier."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Yes, many professionals provide custom-cut glass replacements for enclosures that require precise sizing.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.
