"I recently hired C&Painting to paint several rooms in my home and my deck so that I could freshen the house up to get it ready for sale. Jose quickly set up a time to come over and assess the work and provide an estimate for the cost of painting. Once we agreed on the scope of work and signed the estimate, he promptly scheduled the work and then he and his painting team arrived to do the work exactly on schedule. His team worked quickly, cleanly and very professionally in completing their work over a four-day period. They were very conscientious about protecting my carpets and furniture from paint drops and were great at cleaning up after themselves. They completed all painting as planned and even did some extra work free of charge just because they thought it would look better. Jose and his team clearly take pride in their work and I would definitely hire them again in future."

Customers say: Quick response

"This is our second project with Carlos, Mario and Mario from AW Painting. They did some interior painting; power-washed a brick walkway; power-washed and painted a wood deck; replaced some rotten retaining timbers under a deck (a truly difficult job); and made various other small repairs around the house. They came within the promised window, and the work was careful, detailed and flawless. One of the projects had to be revised mid-course, and the adjustment to the bill was fair and reasonable. They take great pride in the quality of their work. We will turn to them again for future projects."

"Edward and his team repaired, power washed and stained our deck, stained our fence, sealed nail holes in our siding and touched up the paint on the siding. The quote was very reasonable and the work was completely quickly. Edward also took the time to answer all of my questions via email or text and performed touch-ups. I would hire this company again."

"Mr Amaya did a beautiful job. He washed and repaired all of the outside surfaces before painting. He did a variety of repairs that went above and beyond many aspects of the project. He was reliable, professional and meticulous. I’m extremely happy with his work. His price point is very reasonable."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

If your biggest concern is making sure your deck doesn’t show dirt, opt for a darker neutral color that blends in well with your surrounding landscape. A rich brown or dark grey are both good options that work with a variety of house colors. A high-quality acrylic paint is easy to clean and maintain, so it might be worth spending the money on.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.
