"Kyle Hodges and his team did a great job removing old landscaping and preparing the space for new planting. They also repaired our brick front steps and porch, and installed new path lights to replace old, failing lighting. Kyle is easy to communicate with, and offered a lot of good ideas. We liked his design for new landscaping, and we look forward to moving ahead with the planting in the spring."

"We needed our brick front walk repaired. We did some research and also asked neighbors for referrals and got two. The first contractor wanted to replace our entire brick steps and walkway with flagstone (expensive!). The second contractor was Brothers Pavers and Jose said he could repair only the part that needed fixing. He provided a quote (very reasonable) within a day and started work the following week. We were in a time crunch and Jose was able to work us in. Amazing!! It took two days to do the repair and each day the work area was cleaned. Once the mortar was cured, they came back and power washed the steps and walkway - it looked brand new! We highly recommend this company. Jose and the team were excellent to work with."

Customers say: True professional

"Eric and his team did an excellent job. He suggested deer resistant plants that would grow in specific areas of full sun and shade. The stones around the border tied the garden bed together and added interest to the landscaping. I would highly recommend MD Legacy."

"I have nothing but good words for this company and its owner, David. I had stone steps installed in early 2025 and did a fantastic job. I had one stone come loose right after our last snow and I contacted David about it. He sent someone out in less than a week to repair it. And recently, I contacted them to do a spring clean-up, redo a garden with the addition of a retaining wall, and to install stone steppers on a hill. From start to finish, it was professionalism all the way. David was very prompt in putting the proposal together and after I agreed with the terms, he got me on the schedule for work to be done in less than 3 weeks. The team was extremely nice, courteous, prompt. I would highly recommend this company."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Masonry work in Baltimore benefits from annual inspections to catch early signs of mortar deterioration or brick spalling. Repointing should be considered every 15 to 25 years, and waterproofing every five to ten years helps prevent moisture damage. After winter, check for cracks and efflorescence. Regularly clear gutters and trim vegetation to protect masonry, especially in neighborhoods with older homes or clay-heavy soil.

Helpful?

Your Baltimore home may need masonry work if you notice crumbling mortar, water seepage in the basement, or visible brick damage such as spalling or cracking. Rowhouses often develop facade or shared wall issues. Properties in historic districts, those with previous patchwork repairs, or homes built before 1978 especially benefit from a professional masonry assessment to ensure structural integrity and preserve architectural character.

Helpful?

In Baltimore, simple brick repair or minor pointing typically takes one to three days, while more involved projects like chimney repair or facade restoration may require one to two weeks. Foundation restoration and larger masonry jobs can extend up to eight weeks. Weather conditions, historic district guidelines, and city inspections can all influence the timeline, so discuss scheduling expectations with your contractor upfront.

Helpful?

In Baltimore, masonry repair—such as targeted brick repair or repointing—is usually more cost-effective than full replacement, particularly for historic homes. Replacement is generally reserved for cases with severe structural compromise or extensive water intrusion. High-quality repairs can extend the life of your masonry, maintain curb appeal, and help preserve the distinctive look of Baltimore’s neighborhoods.

Helpful?

When hiring for masonry work in Baltimore, prioritize contractors with proven experience in brick repair and restoration, especially on the city’s historic rowhouses. Ask for examples of completed local projects and verify that they carry proper insurance. Choose professionals who understand Baltimore’s unique clay soil, weather patterns, and local building codes to ensure long-lasting, code-compliant results tailored to your property’s needs.
