"Kevin arrived today for the Spring Preventive Maintenance service on our HVAC system that we purchased a few years ago from Holtzople Heating & Air Conditioning. As always, we received an email and a phone call to let us know when the HVAC technician would be arriving. The Holtzople HVAC technicians are always very professional, clean, thorough, and polite and friendly. They are always willing to answer any questions we have, and their expertise and experience are evident in the excellent service they provide."

"We moved in to a house that did not have up to code GFC receptacle in laundry area nor a equate receptacles in utility/basement/water filtration areas. We also had a broken receptacle box in dining room. The service man was on time, clean, courteous, and hard working. He kept the house & work areas clean w/mat & shoe covers. I originally saw Tim Kyle service men at a supply store. They kindly answered my questions, they were in uniform & clean, plus their vehicle was also clean and not damaged. Other folks in the area recommended the company."

"We got five different work proposals for our HVAC replacement. The person who came to our house was very technically knowledgable. He gave us his cell phone number and gave us plenty of his time answering our questions. I think this contractor would have done an excellent job at a good price."

"Everything went great. My AC died and it was close to 20 years old so I wanted the whole unit replaced. I have 4 young kids so no AC in the summer was not a pleasant option. The owner came out on site the day we called and was able to have the new unit installed the next day. I have dealt with many HVAC companies in the past as an Insurance Adjuster. These guys exceeded my expectations and were very reasonable on price. I highly recommend using Buric Heating and Air Conditioning!"

"I had a gas leak issue and it was later identified that leak was on the outside of my house and Washington gas company fixed it. In the meantime I had approached Michael Bonsby to come and check if there are any issues inside my house. The contractor showed up and said that there is no issue with the HVAC and the pipes that are connected to the HVAC. He was suggesting that if there is a leak in the pipes that are inside the drywall, I have to contact a plumber. I wish the contracting company advised me that I may need a plumber in case the leak is in the pipes inside the drywall."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

If you know how to identify supply and return ducts, you’ll find that only the supply ducts will have dampers. Although your return ducts can have dampers, it’s not common. If you have one return duct that is pulling in too much air, adding a damper to it can help with overall system performance. However, dampers on return ducts are not a necessary addition for most homes.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

When first installed, flex ducts shouldn’t cause airflow problems in your home. However, because flex ducts aren’t the sturdiest and require extra support, they lose their durability over time and begin to sag, which can inhibit airflow down the road. Also, if your flex ducts aren’t tight enough, your HVAC could work twice as hard for the same air pressure. If you’re worried about the airflow in your home, a rigid duct may be your best bet.

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.
