"Everything went great. The old hot water heater was removed and then the new hot water heater was installed where I requested it to be with all of the plumbing done in a neat professional manner. No, you don’t need a ductless unit in every room. Ductless AC units don't work the way that window units do, where the air doesn't travel outside that room. The indoor air handlers all attach to the outdoor condenser. While the air doesn't travel the way that traditional ductwork would, the ductless AC units create zones so that one part of the home can be cooler than another. They can spread effectively enough that indoor units only need to be placed in main living areas.

Traditional central air conditioning systems require ductwork to circulate air throughout the home. Alternatively, you can add air conditioning with a mini-split ductless air conditioning system, which can be just as energy efficient as a central air conditioner. This type of system consists of two units–an outside unit that holds the compressor and condenser and an indoor unit that holds an air-handler. With multi-zone ductless systems, there are multiple indoor air handlers tied to a single outdoor compressor/condenser, allowing the system to cool multiple rooms.

A dual evaporator coil is a specific design that allows the AC system to cool different compartments at different levels. It’s usually seen in refrigerators and similar appliances, but not in whole-house air conditioning systems. Talk with your AC technician about the best uses for a dual evaporator coil.
