"We called S & S Electric and they sent Scott and Nick, who arrived promptly. They had to order a new box for the generator to be connected and a new circuit breaker box, as well as a new meter. They changed everything from the outside into the house and got us set up for the night. The next day, John and Nick came to finish the job. All three gentlemen were very knowledgeable and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend them or to call them for any future electrical work."

"Called Paul to consult on a quick charger for an electric vehicle as well as to replace several outdoor outlets at my home. He went above and beyond to plot out the best and cheapest path from our electrical panel to the driveway in our renovated and added onto â 50â s ranch. The work he did I was quick and quality. We have plans to have him back for more in the spring. Highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Mike from A&B electric did an excellent job on what I consider a complicated project. The project required conversion to 220V, sub-panel installation, external receptacle, switch, and device wiring; I'm delighted with his attention to detail, customer service, and overall execution."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

After electrical work in Worcester, schedule a final inspection and test all new circuits, especially if your home has older wiring. Keep all project documentation for insurance or future resale. Register any warranties with your contractor, and update your home insurance if upgrades were significant. Test GFCI outlets regularly, check smoke detectors, and prepare exterior systems for New England’s seasonal changes to maintain safety and efficiency.

Helpful?

For a smooth electrical project in Worcester, get detailed written estimates and verify your contractor’s experience with local housing styles. Schedule work in spring or fall to avoid winter delays, and clear access to basements or attics, which are common in Worcester homes. Submit permit applications early, especially in historic neighborhoods, and notify neighbors if parking or access will be impacted. Build in extra time for surprises in older homes.

Helpful?

In Worcester homes, flickering lights, frequent circuit breaker trips, or warm outlets often signal electrical issues, especially in older properties with outdated wiring. However, symptoms like appliance failure or water near outlets may point to plumbing or HVAC problems. If your home is pre-1970s, electrical concerns are more likely. For safety, have a qualified electrical contractor inspect the issue before starting repairs.

Helpful?

In Worcester, electrical project timelines vary by home type and project scope. Panel upgrades typically take 1–2 days, while whole-house rewiring in older neighborhoods—common in Worcester—may require up to a week, especially if plaster walls or knob-and-tube wiring are present. Smaller jobs like adding outlets or replacing circuit breakers are often completed in a few hours. Permit reviews or historic district approvals can extend timelines, especially during winter.

Helpful?

Worcester homeowners should consider local building codes, permit requirements, and the age of their home—many are pre-World War II and may have legacy wiring. Historic districts often require special approvals, and winter weather can delay outdoor electrical work. Tight street parking and narrow driveways may affect contractor access. Early planning and clear communication with your electrical contractor help avoid delays and ensure compliance.
