"We chose MSM Building Services to handle our recent kitchen remodel and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Mike was awesome to work with, providing excellent guidance on design material choices throughout the project. Mike’s extensive network of subcontractors allowed us to choose not only the most cost effective person for the job but the best professionals to complete the project. Mike was very responsive to our questions and communicated effectively when he was going to be at the house to complete work, making a very disruptive project much less painful. We look forward to working with MSM again in the future!"

"They showed up on time and were very efficient. They installed the light-fan combination and the outlets quickly, and cleaned up afterwards. They were friendly and courteous and very reasonably priced. I was very happy with the work that was done.

"It is very convenient, and reasonably priced.  The only thing that they could work on is the punctuality of the pick up times.  The rest of the experience was satisfactory.  My daughter has also used them.  I would highly recommend this service."

"Matt always arrived on time.  On his first visit, he carefully measured the counter tops, providing me with a clear explanation of what the job would entail. In addition, he regularly kept in touch with me about the progress of the job.    At the agreed upon date and time, Matt arrived to install the counter tops, followed by a thorough cleaning of the work area.    His work was thorough and professional in every way. I must add that Matt's friendly demeanor added to my positive experience of this project.  I would certainly hire Saltwater Woodworks again.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

When conducting space planning, building codes and regulations need to be considered. As long as you are taking them into account and discussing them with the architect, you should be able to do your space planning appropriately.

A floor plan is a less detailed illustration showing a building or room's layout from above, including elements like windows, doors, walls, and fixtures. It offers a simplified view for homeowners. In contrast, a blueprint is a more detailed, to-scale architectural drawing that includes all parts of the building plans, such as structural elements, construction details, and utility schematics. While a floor plan can be a type of view within a blueprint, the complete blueprint contains all the necessary details to turn the plan into a reality.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.
