"Harold & his crew, Charlie & Mike were awesome. Came to work on time. They listened to my wants & needs and came up with a plan that worked. Communicated with us through out the process. Their attention to detail was incredible. They went above & beyond their job description. I would highly recommend them on any renovations, they are very talented skilled laborers. It was a pleasure doing business with this company."

"Tim is an extremely diligent, dedicated hard worker. He built a deck on our house that looks absolutely beautiful and timely. He also has wonderful customer service skills and keeps you informed throughout the entire building process. I would and I have highly recommended him to my neighbors. I am extremely satisfied and I will be having him back to do a sliding glass door on my sunporch. He was a wonderful find!!!"

"Mike satisfied everything a person can desire in a contractor. He assessed my family's project to put in a new 12' by 15' deck expertly. He was very responsive in explaining the work and answering my questions. He priced the job fairly including an Angie's List discount. The only reason my family did not sign the estimate Mike sent us is that the vote was to go with a paver stone patio instead of a deck. The job for which Mike responded with an estimate consisted of a "floating" style deck, with surface preparation, using Veranda composite decking."

Great work, if you don't mind a hassle.

We got a 'deal of the day' to paint a certain amount of sf up to three rooms (I believe).  When they got to the house, I feel that the initial discussion was unpleasant and I feel that I got treated less then professionally.  We did have a disagreement - We asked if they could paint two rooms and a back hall.  They said that the hall would not be included for some reason (I forget exactly) and we expressed our frustration because the entire job was much less than the total sf in the deal.  (We have a tiny house).  They did not dispute the sf but asserted that the hallway was not part of the deal.  They were only willing to paint the two rooms.  Then they offered to do the hallway at an additional charge.  We said no thank you because we just didn't have the money.  We left for work and when I got home, the two rooms AND the hallway were painted and they looked great.  While that did make my day, the interaction with them earlier in the day was beyond what I am comfortable with. I felt manipulated and I felt like they were behaving in an unprofessional manner (despite possibly being right).  That may sound ungrateful.  They did end up doing the entire job.  But at the end of the day, I bought into Angie's List so that I wouldn't have to deal with stuff like that.  It was unpleasant and I would not hire then ever again.

My need for a new countertop became apparent when I had a plumber remove my kitchen sink to replace it with a new one.  This happened in September 2014.  Since the countertop needed to be replaced, I decided the time had come to also address issues with the kitchen cabinets.  I got several quotes.  As far as price goes, Saltwater Woodworks was somewhere in the middle, but Matt Sullivan listened carefully, made good suggestions about how to accomplish my objectives, and was the only one who would commit to getting my kitchen back in working condition by Thanksgiving.  And he delivered on this promise.

I am very happy with the work.  There were some problems encountered.  The finish on the new cabinet doors did not match the finish on the refinished cabinet boxes as well as expected; three of the new drawer fronts were damaged during installation and had to be replaced; there was a problem with the hinges on one cabinet door.  All of these problems were corrected to my complete satisfaction and without any objection.

The entire project, with corrections, took longer than I anticipated.  But once the initial deadline of getting the kitchen up and running by Thanksgiving was met, I was willing to be patient about the corrections and did not press for speedier action.  Matt Sullivan was very good about communication, and I never worried that he would fail to follow through.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.
