"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

Customers say: Quality work

"Shawn answered my desperate call on a Sunday after noon and gave me back five out of the ten years I was burning in stress. He came on scene and saw an electrical box with rain water pouring out of it be because it was outdated and not properly discontinued. When the breaker panel was updated, the person did not educate me on the unit and what dangers could incur depending on my choices."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

For Marblehead homeowners, safe DIY electrical work includes changing light bulbs, resetting breakers, or replacing faceplates—always after shutting off power at the breaker and using insulated tools. Due to older wiring and coastal moisture, avoid tasks involving wiring, panels, or any repairs in damp areas. If your home predates 1950 or you’re unsure about a project, it’s safest to contact a local electrician.

Helpful?

Completing electrical projects in Marblehead offers immediate safety improvements, such as reducing fire hazards and ensuring proper GFCI protection in coastal environments. Over time, you’ll increase your home’s value, enhance energy efficiency, and make it ready for smart home upgrades or electric vehicle charging. Modern electrical systems also help meet historic preservation standards and may improve eligibility for homeowner’s insurance discounts.

Helpful?

Combining electrical upgrades with other home improvements in Marblehead—such as during kitchen remodels or insulation projects—can streamline the renovation process and reduce disruption. Coordinating tasks like wiring updates with lighting or HVAC installations helps maximize efficiency, especially given the coastal climate’s impact on scheduling. Many contractors offer bundled services, which can simplify project management and ensure all work meets local building codes.

Helpful?

It’s time to schedule electrical work in Marblehead if you notice flickering lights, frequent breaker trips, outlets that feel warm, or any burning odors. Homes with two-prong outlets, fuse boxes, or built before 1960 often need updates for safety and efficiency. Seasonal changes—like preparing for storms or winter—are also ideal times to address outdated wiring or add surge protection.

Helpful?

Warning signs in Marblehead include sparking outlets, switches that are hot to the touch, or frequent GFCI resets—especially in damp areas. Corrosion or rust on outlets, common in coastal homes, signals moisture intrusion. In older properties, visible knob-and-tube wiring or brittle insulation can quickly escalate to major repairs. Addressing these issues early with a professional helps prevent extensive and costly electrical problems.
