"In January, Jeff came to service my boiler, which had been shutting off randomly and required several resets. He broke the bad news that the boiler would need to be replaced relatively soon, but understood my need to plan for it and was helpful in providing information without "mansplaining." He talked through options and answered questions. When I was ready, I didn't hesitate to go with Jeff and crew for the replacement job. The quote was fair and I trusted him and his team to do right by me for such a big investment in my home. The system that was installed is practically a work of art! They even tucked the new water heater around the corner from the original spot, creating more space in the main walkway area of the basement. They were communicative, prompt and cleaned up after themselves. It's been 3 months and the new system seems to be working beautifully. Looking forward to seeing how it performs and saves on heating costs during the colder months. I'll keep calling Griffin Heating & Plumbing for all of my needs."

"John G. did an excellent job evaluating the functioning of our boiler and performing annual maintenance for it. It was his second time taking care of the boiler for us. He quickly answered the minor questions that I had, and he advised what would be cost-effective in addressing the issues that I raised. In both the instances in which John G. has serviced our heating system, I found him to be knowledgeable, courteous, and focused on saving us money, whether on heating costs or future upgrades."

"Exceptionally well. Rob was responsive, professional and did everything we could expect. The job required removing the old boiler system and hot water tank and relocating the new system to an entirely different area of the basement, which meant there would be significant repiping and rewiring."

"The Installation crew consisted of Dave (Crew foreman), Admir( site supervisor) Manny (furnace specialist) Julian (furnace specialist). The quote/billing and problem resolution was done by Andy at the Morris office in Essex. This crew showed up as promised at 7:30 AM on the two days scheduled to install. Overall everyone in this crew knew their job and demonstrated expertise at each turn of the installation. I had a lot of questions and all were answered by each one of the crew when asked. We ran into an unexpected issue with plumbing the humidifier and it got resolved almost immediately by Andy without any hassle. Admir and Manny dismantled the old furnace and carted it away in less than two hours. Very conscientiously they wrapped the trashed burner's pieces in drop clothes so no black soot escaped. Manny even took time to Windex finger prints from door knobs and vacuum. Placing the new burner was done with great care and the rebuilding of the sheet metal flume was very well done and tightly sealed. Admir and Manny then attached the optional equipment and tested to make sure everything worked properly. Julian checked all the settings and installed a new supply line according to code from oil tank to burner. This too looked very professional and took some carpentry skill as well to complete. I was very impressed with Dave's knowledge of older houses and knew exactly what had to be done to make the heating system work efficiently. He took no shortcuts and it was his knowledge that finally solved a six year old problem of getting heat to the second floor bathroom and office. All in all this was the best work done to my house in six years. This crew deserves all the praise they are professionals in every sense of the word. I would recommend them and hire them for future work with confidence."

"Ken was easy to work with as he explained how he could install a new water heater for us at a reasonable price. He was right on time and completed the job to our satisfaction. The hot water heater he installed was a brand (Rheem) that is respected in the industry as well. We will not hesitate to use Coastal Plumbing & Heating again in the future."

"Chris, Matt, and their employees did excellent work for us to replace our combi boiler and on-demand hot water heater. They fit us in quickly before a cold snap and worked long hours to get the job completed. The whole system looks great and they clearly take pride in their work. They have been responsive and timely about any follow-up tweaks to the system to get it running correctly. Their communication has been clear and response time is quick. Would definitely recommend!"

"I consider myself super lucky to have had Mike install our water heater, and then subsequently a gas boiler with indirect water heater. He truly IS a master plumber, that boiler looked like a piece of art at the end of installation, and it works like a charm! In addition he did quite a bit of plumbing by moving around a second water heater, to save us some room in the basement - free of charge! Not only is he an outstanding and extremely hard working plumber (you can judge from the number of reviews!), but also a deeply decent man of exceptional integrity, truly an inspiration to all of us..."

"Addario's Services did a great job installing a new high efficiency combo boiler in our home. After I requested an estimate, I got a quick call from the office to schedule a time for one of their comfort advisors to come out to our home. Sam, my comfort advisor was very knowledgeable, and I appreciated his low pressure presentation. Once the work was booked, because our installation was complex, Joe came out and came up with a plan to vent the exhaust on the side of my house to minimize the number of pipes on the front of my house. The installation went very well, and they installed a temporary water heater so we were only without hot water for less than a day. For the day we were without heat, they brought in plenty of space heaters to make us comfortable for that night. When the installation was complete, the installation technicians took lots of time to explain the operation of the new system, and to answer any questions I had. The system is working great and there have b"

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.
It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
