"My initial experience was good when I had Ryan come and rebuild the interior of the boiler and the associated electronics for a total of around $1500 including parts and lots of labor. Then when I called today to have a simple relay replaced, Richard arrived and these people at Heritage proved that they are hucksters of the first order. Stay away from them at all costs!! They tried to sell me a $80 off-the-shelf switching relay for $500!!! Then when I told Richard I would never pay $500 for a switching relay (which requires about 20 minutes to install) he offered to take $100 off his price if I supplied the part! In other words, he was making me the "wonderful" offer to charge me only $1200/hr for his installation time!!! Called the "sales manager" and he was smug, lecturing, defensive and TOTALLY unhelpful. I would NEVER do business with this company ever again. It's highway robbery!! The tech arrived and worked for approximately 90 minutes before ever quoting me the price. It was only AFTER he had uninstalled my existing relay that he quoted me the price of around $500 for a standard Honeywell relay that I just bought from Lowes for $80. The "Service Manager" went on-and-on on the phone about how it was like how a restaurant charges a lot more than the food cost for its dishes. Unfortunately, this "Service Manager" has NO IDEA what he is talking about. In a restaurant, a professional chef prepares the food with lots of other ingredients, it is then served in a pleasing environment, and there is service from waiters, busboys, maitre d, and sometimes the owner and chef. NONE of these things happen here. A tech spends 20 minutes installing a standard, off-the-shelf part to which the tech adds NO VALUE WHATSOEVER, and for that "service" these hucksters add $400 to the price of an $80 part!!! For 20 minutes of work that comes to $1200/hr. "Highway robbery" would be a kind way of phrasing it. Based on the fact that they DO NOT tell you up front how much it will cost, but only after 90 minutes of wasted time during which the tech accomplished nothing other than uninstalling my existing relay which I told him to put back, I would say "bait-and-switch" and virtual fraud would be more descriptive terms for the services that this company provides. Stay away from Heritage if you don't want to be massively ripped off and have your time wasted!"

"Charged $2,000 (that's right, $2,000!) to install a new sprayer faucet and soap dispenser in Boston. $1,500 went to labor, which took less than 2 hours. I'm sorry, but $750/hr is outrageous. I did pay it because I wanted to expedite solving the problem for the tenants, but I now regret as their dishwasher is not working and I suspect the plumber failed to reconnect everything probably."

Merrimack Valley Plumbing, LLC is a locally-owned and operated company committed to providing fast, affordable, and high-quality Plumbing. We offer HVAC repair, installation, and replacement services. We specialize in heating controls and simplifying complicated plumbing and HVAC systems to make them user-friendly. We strive to find solutions that fit everyone’s comfort needs, from construction projects to air conditioner replacement.

"I hired Merrimack Valley Plumbing to install a boiler in my home, and my experience was overwhelmingly disappointing. While the boiler functions, the installation process and quality of work raised numerous red flags. I want to share my experience to help others make an informed decision when considering this company. Installation Issues Code Violations: The exhaust is less than 3 feet from the gas meter, and the holes drilled in the joists for intake and exhaust are less than 2 inches from the bottom, both of which do not meet code requirements. Improper Venting: Both the exhaust and intake vents are installed too close to the ground (not meeting the 12-inch clearance required for expected snowfall) and are too close to each other (less than the 12-inch separation required). Unsealed Penetration: The hole drilled in the siding was left unsealed, creating a potential entry point for rodents. Condensate Drain Issues: The installed condensate pump is leaking and wasn’t tested. Additionally, rather than a permanent drain installation, they daisy-chained it into a pump for a portable air conditioner. Wiring Errors: The zones for the primary bedroom and second floor were wired backward, causing overheating in both areas. Missing Outdoor Sensor: The outdoor temperature sensor, critical for proper operation, was not installed. No CO Alarm: A carbon monoxide alarm was not installed, which is essential for safety. Unprofessional Workmanship: Trash, including a metal duct pipe, was left in the crawl space near live electrical wires. Process Concerns Permit Delays: The company failed to file permits before starting work. I only discovered this after contacting the town permitting office myself. Mismanagement and Delays: The project stretched far beyond the promised timeline, with repeated excuses about missing parts and limited crew availability, despite prior assurances that the job would be completed in two days. Broken Promises: They claimed a project manager would take measurements in advance to ensure a smooth installation, but no one came. Additionally, they rescheduled initially, promising a larger crew, only to send a single plumber on the first day. Misinformation and Deception Throughout the project, I encountered multiple instances where Merrimack Valley Plumbing provided misleading or false information: - They lied about the dates permits were filed. - They claimed delivery issues caused delays, though they should have anticipated these based on the advance photos provided. - They repeatedly shifted blame rather than taking accountability for the delays and issues. Overall Experience While the boiler itself works, the installation was riddled with code violations, safety oversights, and poor workmanship. Additionally, the company’s lack of transparency and repeated dishonesty made an already frustrating situation worse. I would not recommend Merrimack Valley Plumbing to others. Their lack of professionalism, disregard for safety codes, and failure to take responsibility for their mistakes created an unnecessarily stressful and costly experience."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to convert a bathroom into a wet room, but it often requires extensive renovations. You’d likely need to remove the floors to install drainage and a new floor over that, remove drywall outside the shower area, and replace it with cement backer board covered in a waterproofing material. You’d also need to remove the existing shower, waterproof the walls, and install fixtures to create a more open, curbless shower space.

Yes, pipes can freeze during the winter months. If temps dip below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for six or more hours, your insulated pipes are more at risk, while uninsulated pipes can freeze if temps fall below 32 degrees for around 12 hours. Exterior pipes are more likely to freeze than interior pipes. The best way to prevent freezing pipes is by insulating your pipes, keeping your home’s temperature above 55 degrees, opening cabinets and doors containing pipes to promote circulation, dripping faucets, and disconnecting hoses.

If you notice water coming out of the bottom of your tank or the flush handle, you obviously have a leaking tank. Water on the side of the tank can indicate cracks. Other signs include the toilet running and flushing without anyone touching the handle, needing to jiggle the handle to make the water stop after flushing, or needing to hold the handle down to empty the water tank.

Yes, you can technically use a utility knife or straight blade to cut through PEX pipe. However, this isn't an ideal method simply because you won't get the same clean cut that you'll get with a pipe cutter. A utility knife will likely create angles that weaken your push connections. If you use a utility knife, score the pipe with the knife along your marked line several times before making your final cut.

Old pipes can be damaged by hydro jetting due to the intense amount of pressure that travels through them. For PVC pipes, which are one of the most common materials used for sewer lines, it’s considered safe.
