"Really nice and serviced same day as quote. Even took the time show us how the electrical wiring was set up in our older home so we know how to handle the issue ourselves the next time we want to change out light/fan fixtures. Not many companies would be willing to do that anymore!"
A win for the owners of this panel change.

"I estimate I have just under $100k in electronics and appliances in my house. We have significant lightning storms in my location. To NOT have lightning suppression installed is significant risk in my mind based on my location in New Jersey. RS LIGHTNING PROTECTION was responsive with a quick cost estimate and a reasonable price based on my research for installation. By the way...installation is part art, such as bends in cable are not more than 90 degrees. It's not just about running grounded cables. This installation in conjunction with surge protection on my electrical panel performed by my electrician and cable protection gives me significant piece of mind that all my appliances and electronics are protected from lightning and any potential surge generated by a near strike. Mr Richard Sherlock knows his subject. Highly recommended. Five stars."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If you notice flickering lights, frequent outages, warm outlets, or burning odors in your Newport home, these are clear signs to schedule electrical work. Rising utility bills or notifications from your insurance company may also indicate the need for upgrades. Pay attention to issues that worsen during heavy AC or heating use, or when planning to sell or renovate a historic property.

Helpful?

Newport’s humid summers and chilly winters require electrical components that can withstand moisture and temperature fluctuations. Because thunderstorms are common in the Ohio Valley, surge protection and reliable grounding are essential. In flood-prone Newport areas, consider installing elevated panels and using water-resistant materials. Scheduling electrical work in spring or fall helps avoid extreme weather and ensures safer, more efficient installations.

Helpful?

Homes in Newport built before the 1980s, particularly those in historic neighborhoods or near the river, often benefit from electrical upgrades. Signs your home may need work include an old fuse box, outdated panels, frequent breaker trips, or if the house is over 40 years old. Insurance providers may require electrical improvements in older Newport homes to maintain coverage eligibility.

Helpful?

Common mistakes in Newport include skipping required permits, overlooking historic district guidelines, and using materials unsuited for the area’s humidity. Homeowners sometimes neglect surge protection during frequent storms or fail to elevate electrical panels in flood-prone neighborhoods. Attempting complex electrical upgrades in older Newport homes without a qualified contractor can result in safety hazards and code violations.

Helpful?

After finishing electrical work in Newport, it’s important to promptly schedule a final inspection to confirm compliance with local codes. Retain all permits and inspection records, especially if your property is in a historic district. Transitioning to ongoing maintenance, test GFCI outlets monthly due to Newport’s humidity, and arrange annual electrical system checks before peak summer and winter seasons. Review surge protection yearly, as storms are frequent.
