"Started off through messaging via Angie's List and received a call from their call center / customer support - set up a callback to get a quote via phone. The next phone call I received was from Mike (Manager) whom listened to the request for a quote and provided a high overview on the following steps needed for the 200 amp panel box replacement - including potential timeframe for completion. After a quick site visit, Mike took care of setting up the remainder including the permit. A couple days later Scott (Technician) arrived and within 3 hours completed the job - replacing the box, clean-up, and ensuring all connections were up/running. The following day there was one more visit for inspection. Overall, I received plenty communications via email and phone (mobile) from Mr Electric to keep me posted on each step. Great service, fair pricing (parts/labor/permit), and great communication."

"Came over one day to look at our electric needs and give us a realistic quote/estimate. ( He helped us to determine how to best take care of our electrical needs, for both the safest and budget friendly way. )He also had the quote and future date of installation sent to our email address. His Office, called the next day to confirm quote and date work would be done On another day, at our convenience, a different Electrician came. He added the needed electric outlet, installed duct work, and completed the installation for our electric dryer. He asked us to check out his work and turned on the dryer to show that our project was complete. (Both men visiting our home, wore a facial mask, called ahead, gave their name, showed ID, and even wore carpet protectors over their shoes,so we felt safe and our white carpet remained clean.)"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Covington, hidden costs can arise from permit and inspection requirements, code upgrades like GFCI installation, or panel replacements in older homes. You may also encounter expenses for removing outdated knob-and-tube wiring, repairing plaster or lath walls after access, or addressing moisture problems in basements. Surprises behind walls, especially in historic districts, often lead to additional labor or temporary power arrangements.

Helpful?

For Covington homeowners, it’s smart to keep a digital multimeter, non-contact voltage tester, and insulated hand tools for basic electrical checks. Stocking wire nuts, electrical tape, and weather-resistant covers is important, especially for outdoor outlets exposed to Ohio Valley storms. In older Covington homes with damp basements, consider keeping ground fault protection devices and a dehumidifier to help prevent moisture-related electrical issues.

Helpful?

Many Covington homes, especially those built before the mid-20th century, feature plaster walls, solid brick, or stone construction, which can make rewiring more complex. Narrow lots and limited attic access in neighborhoods like Peaselburg can restrict where new wiring or panels are installed. Homes near the Ohio or Licking Rivers may require special grounding or elevated panels due to flood risk and high water tables.

Helpful?

In Covington, if you notice flickering lights, frequent tripped breakers, or outlets that feel warm to the touch, these may signal outdated or unsafe wiring. Historic Covington homes often have two-prong outlets, missing GFCI protection, or knob-and-tube wiring. Watch for burning odors, blackened outlet covers, or excessive use of extension cords—these are all signs that a licensed local electrician should inspect your system.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Covington should prioritize a thorough electrical inspection and clear panel labeling. Upgrading to GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and basements is essential, as is installing smoke detectors and surge protection to handle Ohio Valley storms. Consider weatherproofing exterior outlets and checking for corrosion in the panel, especially in homes with older wiring or those located near the river.
