"This was one of the best experiences I've had with a home improvement in a long time. The sales pitch was very low key but obvious when I saw how bad my insulation was. The crew was friendly and explained what they were doing as they were doing it. They left no mess and my house is cooler and more energy efficient because of it. It's nice that Evergy and Spire offer rebates for the work done. It really made it a no-brainer."

"This is the company to hire. Personal attention to inform me of all phases of beefing up my insulation, sealing vents, can lights, and addressing inspection report finding of lack of insulation in certain sectionsituations of my attic. Also solved problem of bathroom fans venting in attic . I called 3 companies. 1. Never got back to me, 2. Didn't want to come out and I could just send pics to them. UHL was prompt, efficient, competitive fair priced. I will be saving on my utilities. If Highly recommend!"

"I conferred with Green Factor with a insulation issue. They were great to talk to, and in the end I did not need to do anything with my insulation. They gave me their honest professional opinion. I recommend them to anyone who needs a insulation project done."

"After getting bids from several different contractors, we went with Green Star Energy. Stuart, the owner, has a wealth of practical knowledge due to his many years of experience in home construction, remodeling, and insulation. Stuart's experience was important because after thoroughly inspecting our attic, he sold us only what he considered necessary to bring us up to the R-49 insulation we wanted. Perhaps most appreciated was Stuart's professionalism. He was on time for the inspection and sent a detailed bid within 24 hours. He answered all of our questions with a knowledge that reflected his years of experience. From first phone contact to completed job took only five days. He did exactly what was outlined in his bid and cleaned up completely after finishing the job. Lastly, Green Star Energy had the lowest bid of any other contractors we met with.. In one case, it was several thousand dollars less."

"First off the job I was wanting done was a small job. I installed a window in the mud room and when I removed the paneling in the wall to cut the hole for the window, I found unexpected voids in the wall from the previous work. I also put up a stud wall in the west of the mud room. My original plan was to fully insulate with foam the mud room because it was the only room in the house left exposed to outside temperature changes. I expected to pay fully for the work.
Chris, owner and president of Air Tight, came over to give me a proper estimate for the work I wanted done. I showed Chris all that I wanted done from the garage end first and then I showed him the wall with the newly installed window. He noticed the voids in the wall and was surprised because his company "does not do substandard work," as Chris put it. I was prepared to pay for the new work I wanted done, but he told me Air Tight of Kansas would do it for free.
Air Tight of Kansas stands behind their work more than a 100%. I could not be happier with the insulation. The house stays  warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer with the new heating and cooling system without sky high bills. There is no more creaking or popping with the change in temperature any longer. As an added bonus to the foam insulation, there is less movement do to strong winds, one can hardly hear the wind or rain for that matter.
The employees are excited about their product and that excitement I picked up on at the Home Show, where I was introduced to foam installation as a retrofit option. The cost was reasonable and I expect to pay less in gas and electricity for heating and cooling over the next few years.
I highly recommend Air Tight of Kansas for new construction and remodeling for your insulation needs.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You won’t find anything inside a cupola on a house because it’s hollow (think of an upside-down cup), allowing air to ventilate out of a roof via vents and light to come in via windows. They also usually have a base, vents around the middle (usually louvers), and a pointed cap at the top.

Yes, even though frost-free and freeze-proof faucets are designed to withstand winter weather, it is still recommended to cover them with an insulated cap, especially during periods of extreme cold. These faucets work by keeping excess water inside the home's heated space and using a downward slope to drain, but this protection can be compromised. For the faucet to work correctly, you must always disconnect any attached hoses before temperatures drop below freezing, as a hose can trap water and lead to freezing. Ultimately, covering all outdoor faucets, even freeze-proof models, is the best way to prevent frozen and burst pipes.

Insulating your ducts offers several benefits, including:

  • Improved energy efficiency: Duct insulation prevents energy losses, reducing heating and cooling costs.

  • Cost savings: Lower energy bills make insulation a cost-effective investment.

  • Environmental benefits: Enhanced efficiency reduces your carbon footprint.

  • Consistent comfort: Insulated ducts help maintain a stable indoor temperature.

  • Better indoor air quality: Reduced allergens and pollutants improve air quality.

It depends on your needs and preferences, though many homeowners think it is worth it. Not only is blown-in insulation easy to install, but it is highly efficient with thermal regulation. Most types are mold-resistant, flame-resistant, insect-resistant, and, most importantly, completely safe.

Yes, it is possible to have too much insulation, which can have detrimental effects. While more insulation might seem better for energy efficiency, a home needs to "breathe" or ventilate to release moisture that accumulates inside. Over-insulating can seal a house too tightly, trapping water vapor and leading to several problems, including mold, mildew, and condensation. Homes in warm, humid climates are particularly susceptible to mold, while those in colder climates can experience condensation from temperature fluctuations. Additionally, adding more insulation than the recommended amount for your climate may not provide recoverable energy savings. To avoid these issues, consult a professional insulation contractor who can determine the optimal amount of insulation for your home.
