"I highly recommend Jeff and everyone at Metro Tree Service! I will never use anyone else. Outstanding service from Jeff and the guys who were here yesterday! They came out in just a couple days after I called them to cut down my tree. Very professional, super fast and so friendly. To top it off, fantastic pricing compared to 10 other companies that bid on our job. The yard looks fantastic! There isn't so much as a twig left in my yard! Great job cleaning up! I couldn't be any happier! Thank you so much! Have a Merry Christmas! 🎁🎅🎄"

"Best Tree Service in town. No comparison. Best price and service, no bs. They trimmed my trees and removed a 75 oak tree. They also coached me on how to get KCP&L to trim around transfer lines for free."

"Another GREAT job by Michael's Tree Service. I had about three trees that had various issues that needed to be addressed. I called Michael's Tree Service because they helped me last year and did a great job. Michael got back with me and had Robby give me a call. Robby came out and gave me a very reasonable quote, Michael, Robby and team came out this morning and got the work completed and they did an awesome job! They also cleaned up afterwards. They are a very professional and friendly team that does great work. I highly recommend them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

There are four common ways to prune a tree correctly: crown thinning, crown reduction, crown raising, and crown cleaning. The method you choose depends on the purpose of pruning. However, making the correct cuts is a vital part of the process, regardless of your method. Pruning incorrectly can damage or even kill the tree. So, you may want to hire a professional tree-trimming company to tackle the task.

The cost of professional tree trimming averages $460, with a typical range between $200 and $760. However, prices can be as low as $75 or as high as $1,800 depending on several factors. The size and type of the tree are major cost drivers; for example, trimming Crepe Myrtle trees costs an average of $80 to $400, while trimming giant pine trees can range from $200 to $1,800. Other factors that influence the price include the time of year, as services are often more costly in the spring. The tree's accessibility and your location also play a role, as a remote or hard-to-reach tree may increase the cost. Some professionals may offer a discount if you have multiple trees to trim.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.

No, you cannot throw branches from your neighbor’s tree back into their yard, nor can you discard leaves or other plant matter that originated from their yard back over there if it happens to land in your yard. You are responsible for cleaning up plant matter that made its way into your yard.
