"We were renovating a 39 year-old home that had an aggregate patio which was sloping toward the house. Several contractors told us we needed to tear out the old but Matt suggested the existing patio could be covered with brick pavers and the slope could be corrected during installation. He searched the city for reclaimed brick since that was the look I wanted. He started the job on time and his team could not have been more professional. We had cranky neighbors and the guys went above and beyond to keep everyone happy. The finished product is wonderful -- the patio is level and the brick is a beautiful backdrop to our landscaping. I've recommended Matt to several friends and neighbors and will continue to do so. Outlook is the best!"

"Armando is very responsive. He gives clear quotes, provides high quality service, shows when he says he is going to show, and finishes on time. He created new rock landscape beds, installed a sprinkler system with plant spaghetti lines, repaired our fence, and up in sod after we installed a new pool. He followed up proactively when I needed to winterize and completed that without me even having to call him. He has also done work for my Mom. I will continue to use him and would highly recommend him. He great value for the price."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

You may need to lay sod on the areas you dug up once you get the okay from the contractor. It will take about 30 to 45 days for the sod to take root. Consult a local sod installer to get an accurate estimate of the timeline of your specific yard-enhancement project.

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.

If shade is a priority for you, then panting elm trees is a fine choice. A full mature elm tree has enough aesthetic appeal for some folks that it could add value to your home.

That said, never plant elm trees too close to your home, sewer line, or sidewalks, as their roots can damage these, which can lead to costly repairs.

Plant privet hedges at least 1 foot apart in a trench about 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It’s important to space privet hedges relatively far apart due to how quickly they grow to significant sizes and heights. You don’t want to crowd privet plants, or they could overcrowd each other, causing unwanted damage.
