"I've used Deck Pro on a regular basis. Jason does a great job. He's very efficient and my plants don't end up splashed with deck stain, always a plus!"

"Dan and his helper are very professional and extremely hard working. Dan took the time to make sure the paint color was correct by bringing out a gallon to test it against the color we selected. He demonstrated excellent woodworking skills when replacing rotten brick molding, siding boards, & door jams. The shrubbery was protected with tarps and the work site was left clean each day. We are very happy with the completed paint job. The house looks great! We also had the driveway power washed. The concrete driveway had become dark and discolored and now looks good as new. Dan and his helper care about the quality of their work. We plan to hire Jimdandi Painting for our other painting needs."

"I met with Mark and he gave me a fair quote and even suggested things I hadn't thought of, like refinishing our banister.  Bob and crew were always timely, polite and very respectful of us and our house.  The crew was with us a week and I couldn't be more pleased with their professionalism and the quality of the work.  They took pride in their work and honestly were just as careful as I would have been.
They consulted on color selection and were very helpful with that part of the job.
I had been clearing rooms, as best I could, before they painted and at the end of the week they were ahead of me.  My husband's office was the last room to be painted and every wall is covered with photos and shelves with trophies.  Bob and crew took pictures of all the items, removed them, painted the walls, and put everything back perfectly and finished ahead of schedule.  I could not be more pleased!
Following the whole-house paint job, we had all flooring in the house replaced.  Bob and a small crew came back after the January floor job and re-caulked and painted the shoe molding and touched up the walls and banister that were banged up when the carpet was installed.
Will definitely have them back - hopefully this summer to paint our exterior!!
Thanks Mark,  Bob and crew for treating my home the way one would treat their own!

"Simply put, it went great!  The enthusiasm of Danny & his crew frankly made me want to have more work done.  In fact, I already have him scheduled for the Spring to completely refinish & paint/stain the deck & other painting outside.  Thanks again Danny for a job well done & on time!!!

"Fantastic! The men from JD Hostetter came out sooner than expected to take care of our badly peeling deck. They removed the patio furniture, pressure washed - came back a few days later to sand and scrape the deck before painting. The crew was polite, prompt, professional - it was a job well done!"

"THE PAINTERS (THREE) WERE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE SCRAPING (THERE WAS A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF FLAKED PAINT TO PICKUP), AND ALSO WITH THE PAINTING. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT LANDSCAPING AROUND THE HOUSE. THEY WERE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT DAMAGE THE LANDSCAPING. HOWEVER, ONE SHRUB WAS DAMAGED. STEVE DEDUCTED $50 FOR THE DAMAGE, AND THEN OFFERED TO REMOVE THE SHRUB AT NO CHARGE TO ME ONCE I DECIDED THAT WAS MY PREFERENCE. THEY DID A VERY GOOD JOB OF REMOVING THE SHRUB. STEVE INITIALLY UNDERESTIMATED THE EFFORT TO SCRAPE AND PRIME THE HOUSE. HE DISCUSSED THE ADDITIONAL WORK NEEDED AND WE ARRIVED AT A VERY REASONABLE ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE WORK. HE DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE CARPENTER WORK NECESSARY AT THE JUNCTURE OF THE EVE AND THE FIREPLACE CHIMNEY. OVERALL, MY EXPERIENCE WAS VERY POSITIVE WITH THIS GROUP. THE GROUP HAD TO ADJUST THEIR SCHEDULE TO ACCOMMODATE THE EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER, AND ONE AFTERNOON AND ONE DAY OF RAIN. THEY WORKED TWO SATURDAYS TO KEEP THE JOB ON SCHEDULE."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.
