"Custom Colors Painting did an outstanding job painting the exterior of our home. They helped us with our color selections by painting several body and trim color samples on a small area of the house, which really helped us visualize what the house would look like when complete. Mark is very good with color and gave us some great suggestions on enhancing the look of our home. They thoroughly pressure washed the house and caulked all the joints before painting. The crew was very professional, polite, punctual and detail oriented. They kept the work areas clean and organized throughout the project. After the painting was completed, they even cleaned the outside of our windows and raked the footprints out of the mulch around the house. They were great to work with and we are very pleased with the results!"

"They showed up on time, did an amazing job. They also power washed, stained and seal coated my deck and floor of my gazebo. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of everyday! Danny and his brother and helper honored the estimate they gave us last year... they also warranty their work and gave us a copy. I would highly recommend them to others and cannot say enough good things about them."

"

I contacted Dennie regarding the repair and he came out the same day to see what needed to be done. He assured me that it could be repaired and repainted and re-textured back to it's original condition. He worked around my schedule. He did the patch one day and then returned the next day to introduce his employee and brief him on the project. Horatio painted the entire section of wall affected ( so that the paint would match).. Per my request, I also had Horatio paint some window trim that had needed a touch up. Dennie charged me a nominal amount. Horatio did a terrific job on both of the painting projects. Dennie's drywall repair was perfect. No one will ever know that the drywall had even been damaged! Dennie returned later in the day to check Horatio's work and to collect payment. Dennie was so friendly...as was Horatio...! I would definitely recommend him again...although I hope I do not  have any more drywall holes in my future!

"We have been homeowners for 40 years and this was probably the best service we have received as homeowners. Their work involved prep and painting on a three story house. They also worked on three different deck areas. They completed all of the items in the contract and also replaced some rotted wood at the top of our house which was discovered by the workers on the roof. We had some questions during the six day process and they were addressed immediately by the owner of the business. Their work on our house was outstanding. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend C & Z Painting."

"Steve and his team did a great job in every aspect of this project. They were quick to come out and give us an estimate and start on painting the bedroom. The work is immaculate and they cleaned up very well after themselves. I highly recommend this company and already plan on using them again to stain my exterior door."

"Jason did some exterior painting of trim on our home as well as deck repair and stain. I followed his suggestion for a stain color and it worked out great. He did a fine job, was punctual, and very neat and tidy. He responded promptly to texts. I look forward to working with him again. He came back and completed a small job for me as well."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

The longevity of paint on wood depends on factors like the quality of the paint, surface preparation, exposure to elements, and maintenance. Exterior paint on wood surfaces can last 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Interior paint tends to have a longer life span, often 10 years or more. Regular cleaning, touch-ups, and addressing any issues like peeling or cracking can extend the life of the paint.

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.

Yes, it is generally a very good idea to seal your deck after pressure washing. Power washing removes not only dirt and debris but also a thin layer of wood, leaving the surface exposed and more susceptible to weathering. Sealing is almost always needed after this process. After a general cleaning, sealing isn't automatically necessary if the existing sealant is still intact. You can test the surface by placing a few drops of water on it. If the water beads up, the sealant is working. If it soaks into the wood, it's time to apply a new sealant. If it has been a few years, it's wise to remove the old sealant, wash the deck, and reseal for maximum protection.
