"Custom Colors Painting did an outstanding job painting the exterior of our home. They helped us with our color selections by painting several body and trim color samples on a small area of the house, which really helped us visualize what the house would look like when complete. Mark is very good with color and gave us some great suggestions on enhancing the look of our home. They thoroughly pressure washed the house and caulked all the joints before painting. The crew was very professional, polite, punctual and detail oriented. They kept the work areas clean and organized throughout the project. After the painting was completed, they even cleaned the outside of our windows and raked the footprints out of the mulch around the house. They were great to work with and we are very pleased with the results!"

"They showed up on time, did an amazing job. They also power washed, stained and seal coated my deck and floor of my gazebo. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of everyday! Danny and his brother and helper honored the estimate they gave us last year... they also warranty their work and gave us a copy. I would highly recommend them to others and cannot say enough good things about them."

"We have been homeowners for 40 years and this was probably the best service we have received as homeowners. Their work involved prep and painting on a three story house. They also worked on three different deck areas. They completed all of the items in the contract and also replaced some rotted wood at the top of our house which was discovered by the workers on the roof. We had some questions during the six day process and they were addressed immediately by the owner of the business. Their work on our house was outstanding. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend C & Z Painting."

"Very professional and efficient. 2 1/2 days start to finish. Three colors: two colors on plank siding and one trim color. Four to five workers on-site and a supervisor at least once a day."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

It's okay to walk on a newly painted deck after about four to six hours as long as the weather has been dry. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours before you place any outdoor furniture or grills on a freshly painted deck, though.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

You don't need to seal your deck after painting it because most exterior paints are waterproof and weather-resistant. While stealing is not necessary, it can add an additional layer of protection.
