"Custom Colors Painting did an outstanding job painting the exterior of our home. They helped us with our color selections by painting several body and trim color samples on a small area of the house, which really helped us visualize what the house would look like when complete. Mark is very good with color and gave us some great suggestions on enhancing the look of our home. They thoroughly pressure washed the house and caulked all the joints before painting. The crew was very professional, polite, punctual and detail oriented. They kept the work areas clean and organized throughout the project. After the painting was completed, they even cleaned the outside of our windows and raked the footprints out of the mulch around the house. They were great to work with and we are very pleased with the results!"

"They showed up on time, did an amazing job. They also power washed, stained and seal coated my deck and floor of my gazebo. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of everyday! Danny and his brother and helper honored the estimate they gave us last year... they also warranty their work and gave us a copy. I would highly recommend them to others and cannot say enough good things about them."

"We have been homeowners for 40 years and this was probably the best service we have received as homeowners. Their work involved prep and painting on a three story house. They also worked on three different deck areas. They completed all of the items in the contract and also replaced some rotted wood at the top of our house which was discovered by the workers on the roof. We had some questions during the six day process and they were addressed immediately by the owner of the business. Their work on our house was outstanding. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend C & Z Painting."

"Very professional and efficient. 2 1/2 days start to finish. Three colors: two colors on plank siding and one trim color. Four to five workers on-site and a supervisor at least once a day."

"We recently hired Taylor and the crew at True North Craftsman to paint the main level of our home, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. They transformed all of our outdated stained wood trim and molding into a beautiful, crisp white finish that completely modernized our home. The project included painting our walls and tackling challenging 13-foot ceilings, and the quality of their work was exceptional. Their attention to detail was evident in every room—from the careful preparation to the clean lines and flawless finish. They didn’t cut corners and took obvious pride in their craftsmanship. One thing that really impressed us was having a supervisor on-site every day. Communication was excellent, any questions or minor touch-ups were handled promptly, and the crew was professional, courteous, and respectful of our home. They worked efficiently while keeping everything as clean and organized as possible throughout the project. The entire experience exceeded our expectations."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You should seal your deck every one to two years, but you’ll also need to clean and repair your wood deck throughout the seasons. You may want to hire a local house cleaning service to sweep and clean the deck thoroughly. These cleaning services cost around $50 per hour.

Inspect your deck at least once a year, and if you notice any damage or rot, expect to spend about $10 to $50 for simple DIY fixes or about $2,000 for professional repairs on more extensive damage.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.

To make sure the paint won’t bubble as you apply it, make sure to paint on a day that’s cooler than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature is too high, the paint won’t dry evenly, which can result in bubbles forming on the surface. Another way to prevent paint from bubbling is to clean the walls, apply primer, and let everything dry completely before you begin.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.
