"Dan was timely in giving me a quote and then scheduled the work a month or so out to fit my schedule. He and his team did just as they promised. They cleaned the siding and gutters, caulked any cracks, replaced a few cedar boards and then painted it all with a thick coat of Sherwin Williams paint. It looks great and they left no mess. Will use Dan for my future painting."

"Custom Colors Painting did an outstanding job painting the exterior of our home. They helped us with our color selections by painting several body and trim color samples on a small area of the house, which really helped us visualize what the house would look like when complete. Mark is very good with color and gave us some great suggestions on enhancing the look of our home. They thoroughly pressure washed the house and caulked all the joints before painting. The crew was very professional, polite, punctual and detail oriented. They kept the work areas clean and organized throughout the project. After the painting was completed, they even cleaned the outside of our windows and raked the footprints out of the mulch around the house. They were great to work with and we are very pleased with the results!"

"They showed up on time, did an amazing job. They also power washed, stained and seal coated my deck and floor of my gazebo. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of everyday! Danny and his brother and helper honored the estimate they gave us last year... they also warranty their work and gave us a copy. I would highly recommend them to others and cannot say enough good things about them."

"We have been homeowners for 40 years and this was probably the best service we have received as homeowners. Their work involved prep and painting on a three story house. They also worked on three different deck areas. They completed all of the items in the contract and also replaced some rotted wood at the top of our house which was discovered by the workers on the roof. We had some questions during the six day process and they were addressed immediately by the owner of the business. Their work on our house was outstanding. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend C & Z Painting."

"Very professional and efficient. 2 1/2 days start to finish. Three colors: two colors on plank siding and one trim color. Four to five workers on-site and a supervisor at least once a day."

"We recently hired Taylor and the crew at True North Craftsman to paint the main level of our home, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. They transformed all of our outdated stained wood trim and molding into a beautiful, crisp white finish that completely modernized our home. The project included painting our walls and tackling challenging 13-foot ceilings, and the quality of their work was exceptional. Their attention to detail was evident in every room—from the careful preparation to the clean lines and flawless finish. They didn’t cut corners and took obvious pride in their craftsmanship. One thing that really impressed us was having a supervisor on-site every day. Communication was excellent, any questions or minor touch-ups were handled promptly, and the crew was professional, courteous, and respectful of our home. They worked efficiently while keeping everything as clean and organized as possible throughout the project. The entire experience exceeded our expectations."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Choosing the right product involves understanding deck material, desired finish, and local weather conditions. Opt for high-quality, weatherproof formulations ensuring long-term durability and appearance retention.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.
