"Simply put, it went great!  The enthusiasm of Danny & his crew frankly made me want to have more work done.  In fact, I already have him scheduled for the Spring to completely refinish & paint/stain the deck & other painting outside.  Thanks again Danny for a job well done & on time!!!

"Fantastic! The men from JD Hostetter came out sooner than expected to take care of our badly peeling deck. They removed the patio furniture, pressure washed - came back a few days later to sand and scrape the deck before painting. The crew was polite, prompt, professional - it was a job well done!"

Customers say: Quality work

"I had a great experience working with Rick. At first, I hired Rick to do some repair work on the small platform deck at my rental property; he did such a great job that I hired him to repair the platform deck on my primary home as well. I could not be more pleased with the final product at both properties. At our primary home, I initially wanted an extension on our current deck. Rick quoted me a fair price and got to work. Upon pulling up a couple of boards, he noted that our baseboards were severely rotting and decaying quickly (Deck is maybe 12-15 years old) and so he quickly quoted what it would be to tear down and replace , he was able to make it work with his schedule and completed the project in 2 days. The new deck is amazing! I highly recommend Rick for any deck or carpentry needs that you may have. I referred him over to other family members. Rick is fast, fair, and efficient."

"Ed is a very friendly and professional. He did an excellent job power washing and staining our deck and gave us a great price. We had quite a few heavy items that needed to be moved off our deck before he could start. My husband and I are not physically able to do this. Ed removed them and when he was finished with the job he put everything back exactly where it was. I would highly recommend Ed to anyone who wants their tired old deck looking new again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is important to wash your deck before painting to ensure the paint applies well and adheres properly. While you don't have to use a pressure washer, it is one of the most efficient cleaning methods. Pressure washing can quickly remove dirt, wood fibers, and flaked paint, getting deeper into the wood than manual scrubbing. You can also clean the deck with a stiff broom and a cleaning solution. Regardless of the method, a clean surface is essential for good paint adhesion. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any paint.

The best paint for an older deck depends on the material and whether or not your deck already has a coat of paint. Generally, if your deck already has paint on it, you should choose the same type of paint when repainting the deck. For example, if an old deck has oil-based paint on it, stick with oil; if your deck has water-based paint, choose water-based paint.

Ensure gutters and downspouts remain clean, monitor wall integrity, and promptly address any arising imperfections or peels concept permanence rooted.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

Aftercare includes routine cleaning, checking for water repellency, and promptly addressing any chips or peels, maintaining the deck's appearance and functionality.
