After a very thorough inspection to see what all the problems were, an estimate was given, which I accepted. They had to work around cold weather and rain, but the care and expertise amazed me. They scraped and power washed -- twice. Then there was patching, caulking, priming and, finally, painting. The house looks brand new and I couldn't be more pleased. I recommend them and their work ethic unreservedly."

Often those unaware of the differences use the terms interior designer and interior decorator interchangeably. There’s a reason why interior designer fees are typically more than those of decorators. 

Decorators focus solely on dressing the room with color, furnishings, and finishes. Designers have a broader remit, covering structural planning, layout, function, and general aesthetics. Because of the additional skills needed as a designer, they’ll have studied in the field and should have certification and possibly licensing.

Decorating a tree yourself will only take between one and two hours, but a professional designer may take more time to create their vision. When hiring a pro, assume the work will take a minimum of three to four hours.

The main difference between a home stager and an interior designer is that the former creates temporary, generally appealing spaces, while the latter creates personalized design choices for your permanent home. A home stager seeks to depersonalize your home while also showing off the best features of the home to potential buyers. An interior designer works with you to infuse your personal style into the decor in your home. You’ll typically only hire a local home stager when selling your home.

Ideally, a pot filler should not be centered but rather installed to the left or right of the cooking surface to avoid having to reach over the hot area to access it. If this arrangement isn't possible, you can technically center a pot filler above the cooking surface, but you'll need to take care not to burn yourself. Also, the filler itself will become hot from a large boiling pot or stovetop.

Most interior designers have at least a four-year degree, if not an advanced degree in interior design. Additionally, many states require interior designers to be licensed. If your state does not require licensing, interior designers can take a licensing exam with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Overall, licensing requirements vary from state to state, but most licenses require certain education levels and experience to qualify.
