"They replaced a capacitor for $175 and put in 3 lbs of R22 at $75/lb with a sealant that cost $275. Then they cleaned the outside hot coil for $ 100. The total bill including the $39 Angie's list coupon deal I purchased from came to $814. Work was done 6/27/2018 and AC is working well."

"We made an appointment with Cool Air on a Friday and were given a window of between 3 - PM the next day, Saturday. Of course we took that time slot. Our AC had suddenly quit working as well as the Heat and blower fan. We had assumed that the circuit board in the furnace needed to be replaced. Having had them change out both the condenser coils and AC compressors on 3 of the 4 units that cool the house in the last 1.5 years we were unsure what the issues may have been. Sure enough at 6:00 PM Saturday Troy knocked on the front door with a smile, put his booties on and went right to work. It turned out that a safety switch they installed during one of the installs was clocked in the wrong position and had tripped. He put it at the 12 o'clock position, glued the PVC tubing it was installed in, problem fixed. They could not have been more responsive and he could not have been any better of a technician. Bravo Zulu to Troy and Cool Air once again!"

"I did a quote on Angie needing help with my newly installed HVAC system in my recently purchased home. Kevin was the first person to call me, I explained what was going on he asked a series of questions and eventually referred me to the installer of the system. Informing me there should be a minimum one year installers warranty, to figure out whom installed it and to get them back out as to not void my manufacture warranty by allowing someone else work on the system. I received and used information from my broker and the same day 4/24/26 called the original installer and they are coming today 4/28/26 to fix this brand new system. The Peoples Champ Heating & Air, will be my go to experts once this courtesy one year warranty is up for sure. Thanks Kevin. For being a honest decent person, caring more about your craft and building relationships then making a Buck."

"Paul identified and resolved several issues with my HVAC system. It is a three zone system with dampers, one of which had failed. Though he hoped to replace the server, it was non-standard and he had to cut into the plenum and replace the entire damper unit. Plus the layout of the system was such that access to the area was unusually difficult. He also serviced the outside condenser unit more thoroughly than I have seen over the years. And installed one wi-fi thermostat and moved another. I felt that his charges were very reasonable considering all that was asked of him. I have no hesitation to recommend Paul Bessey for HVAC work."

"I couldn?t be happier with the air duct cleaning service I received! From the moment I called to schedule, Jocelyn was friendly, professional, and easy to work with. They arrived on time, explained everything clearly, and made sure to treat my home with care. I was amazed at how much cleaner and fresher the air felt right after they finished. They even showed me before and after photos of the vents what a difference! It?s such a relief knowing my family is breathing cleaner air now. I?ll definitely be using them again and recommending them to friends and family."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, HVAC zoning is generally considered worth the investment by both experts and homeowners. Zoned systems offer significant benefits in convenience, efficiency, and comfort by allowing you to set different temperatures for various rooms or 'zones' in your house. This ability to heat and cool only the spaces you're using leads to energy savings and lower utility bills. Zoned systems are especially effective in multi-level homes that experience temperature fluctuations, but even smaller homes can benefit from the ability to adjust temperatures more quickly. While the up-front installation cost can be high, many find it's a worthwhile long-term investment, particularly for those who plan to stay in their home for a while.

As a general rule, you should have your HVAC system professionally serviced at least once a year, though it's best to follow the manufacturer's specific recommendations. Many experts suggest twice-yearly maintenance: once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system. This is especially recommended for older units, systems with recurring issues, or heat pumps that provide both heating and cooling. Regular service, which can cost between $100 and $550, keeps the system running efficiently, helps prevent costly future repairs, and saves money on utility bills.

The top reason to purchase an HVAC maintenance contract is the fact that it ensures you are detecting problems before they turn into expensive fixes. Secondly, this type of contract provides priority service, which is nice if it’s peak busy season. Finally, an HVAC maintenance contract provides discounts on parts and labor for repairs, which can save you a good amount of money if your unit breaks.

Some HVAC systems tend to use R410A refrigerant, although if you have an older model it may be using R22. R22 is banned due to its harmful environmental and health impacts, and it is a sign that your AC unit is old enough to consider a replacement and the significant efficiency gains that could come with it.

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Some units have a dedicated "reset" button; if yours does, press and hold it for three to five seconds. If your air conditioner doesn't have a reset button, or if you are resetting it after a power outage, leave the circuit breaker off for at least 30 minutes to allow the system to reset itself. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker, turn on the AC from the thermostat, and set it to "cool" to test the system.
