"I had my porch re-screened done last autumn and the new slats needed painting to match trim. Much to detailed a job for me! Giovani came for the estimate on promptly on time. He was polite, courteous and communicated effectively about the job. An estimate was send via email in the next 24-48 hours, and it was easily scheduled. I had a request to add a little something to the painting plan after a day or so. I sent a photo with my request which was able to be added. The team showed up on time on the scheduled work day, worked steadily. They meticulously taped all the screen, primed and painted- took a lunch break- and came right back to finish on time. Everything was beautifully painted and there was no mess afterwards for me to deal with. I am so happy with the results. I expect to hire them in future for inside painting."

There are several ways to make a wooden fence more visually appealing and keep it that way for years to come.

  • Treat the fence with a wood sealant to protect it against the elements. It’s recommended to reseal a fence every two to three years, but if you live in a harsh climate, you may want to do it more frequently than that.

  • Restore the fence if it’s old, corroding, or fading. That includes cleaning it and making small repairs where needed.

  • Paint the fence in a color that you like, whether that’s a simple white or more vibrant option. Fences usually need to be repainted every one to three years.

  • Decorate the fence with planters, string lights, birdhouses, mirrors, shutters, and more.

You can paint an old wooden fence, but make sure first to do a deep clean (ideally with a pressure washer) and inspect the fence for any existing damage. Painting over dirt and debris will cause your paint to peel. Once you’ve cleaned and repaired any minor issues, use a primer and high-quality satin paint.

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.
