"I selected having my new HVAC (heatpump) system installed by Ragsdale based on the qualified sales consultation, the use of Carrier products made in the USA, and Ragsdale being a local certified family run business. My new unit was installed this morning by two technicians who worked efficiently and who kept me in the loop about the new equipment, thermostat, warranty, and FAQs. They were polite, neat & tidy. Well recommended."

"It went flawlessly as always!  The bathroom vanity's supply lines were re-positioned so the new vanity sits flush to the wall.  As well, the shower no longer drips after being turned off.  This is the second time I've used this company and I would use them again.  I highly recommend them.

"Omega Heating went under the house, changed out of the filter, and reignited to the pilots. He mentioned in the next year I would need to replace my furnace because of rust, which was great advice. They voiced their concerns, which I was grateful for. They provided me an estimate for a replacement. I would recommend them to anyone. They were professional, on time, and went above and beyond."

"Brent Weiss oversaw the recent purchase and install of a Daikin Mini split unit in my mid century modern renovated ranch house sunroom. The financing option Armato Heat and Air offered was very helpful, communication with the installers and speed of the installation was impressive. And the new unit- amazing!"

"Quick Fast N Hurry is aptly named for this business. Mr. Harper quickly responded to my request for an estimate and service; his service charge was reasonable too. He was also able to get me on his schedule quick, fast and a hurry. Once scheduled, he was communicative throughout the entire service experience, even sending a reminder the day before the and day off. He arrived when he said he would. I really liked that he was respectful of my time. He did a diagnostic and was able to repair my washer at the same time . He was polite, efficient, productive, and professional. I also felt that he was trustworthy. I would definitely use Mr. Harper at Quick Fast N Hurry, LLC again for appliance installation or repair."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.

Unless they are connected to the same system, boilers and water heaters will both need their own expansion tanks. The only case they wouldn’t have separate expansion tanks is if the boiler is pulling double duty and managing a heating system while also supplying hot water for a home. In which case, you may not need a hot water heater.

Heat pumps are significantly more efficient than boilers, typically providing three to four times the amount of heat for the electricity they consume. While boilers run on fossil fuels, heat pumps use only electricity. This efficiency can lead to long-term savings on operating and maintenance costs. However, heat pumps have a higher upfront installation price compared to boilers. Despite their lower efficiency, boilers remain a popular choice for many homeowners, with 8 million in the United States alone, due to their lower initial cost and less intensive installation process. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your home's infrastructure, your budget, and your personal heating priorities.

Always consult your manual for specific pressure numbers. Many expansion tanks come pre-pressurized at a specific PSI range, anywhere from 12 to 40 PSI, designed for a range of home boilers. You should not have to pressurize an expansion tank yourself, only the boiler system. If your system has a tank that needs to be manually pressurized, this is generally a job for professionals and their tools.

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.
