"A job well done! Mr. James Wilson, the owner of the company is an artist/professional carpenter, his work is truly remarkable! I am so pleased with his work! He does not use pre-fabricated countertops because he prefers to use high-quality materials to customize and build for his clients. There were none of that unfinished or damaged drywall repairs since he made sure to custom-build the backsplash to go along with the new countertop to create an aesthetic piece. I have had hired someone who created a bigger scope of a project for me than the original plan due to a lack of planning and execution and ultimately additional repair cost was added. He installed the sink, garbage disposal, kitchen faucet, and plumbing professionally. J. Wilson Decorative Countertops and Cabinets has exceeded my high expectation for a job well done. The countertop is much better in quality than the pre-fabricated ones which are made of particle board at Lowes and Home Depot. Mr. Wilson has the artistic sense to know how to match the color/pattern of my new countertop to my existing kitchen, so that everything ties in together to enhance the beauty and good vibe of the kitchen. I am so happy that the new laminated countertop looks great for my kitchen. The countertop is as thick as granite slab, it is heavy, strong and sturdy. I am convinced that it will last a long time and the price is so reasonable for homeowners. The beautiful countertop speaks for itself about the superior craftmanship and the artistic sense of the professional who is behind it."

"I highly recommend this company for granite repair. They promptly responded to my request and scheduled an appointment for the very next day. They arrived on time, were extremely professional, and repaired my granite countertop so flawlessly that you can’t even tell where the crack had been. The pricing was very reasonable, and the quality of the workmanship was pristine. Reliable, skilled, and highly professional from start to finish."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

For most homeowners, quartz and quartzite countertops are similar in price. The average quartz countertop installation costs $80 to $220 per square foot, while quartz countertops cost $70 to $200 per square foot. Of course, there are outliers, like if you choose a highly customized, rare natural stone with high-end finishes.

Both quartz and granite are durable, long-lasting countertop materials that can last for decades, potentially the lifetime of your kitchen, with proper maintenance. Quartz is generally considered more durable than granite due to its nonporous nature. However, it can be damaged by extreme heat. Granite is also very durable but is a porous material that requires regular resealing to extend its lifespan and prevent stains. On the other hand, granite is more resistant to heat than quartz.

Yes, you can install a farmhouse sink on an existing countertop—but there are some caveats. You’ll need to precisely measure. It’s best to choose a sink that’s the same dimensions as your existing sink, since your contractor won’t have to cut the countertop. Otherwise, pay close attention to the depth of your counter (the front to back measurement). You don’t want to install something that’s so big it sticks out beyond your countertop and cabinetry.

Yes, you can install a new layer of laminate over an existing laminate countertop, which can save you time and money while updating its appearance. The process is similar to installing laminate directly onto particle board. First, clean the existing countertop thoroughly. Next, fill and sand any cracks or damaged areas. Then, you'll need to sand or scratch up the entire surface to help the contact cement or glue adhere properly. After applying the adhesive, you can install the new laminate layer on top. If you're looking for other ways to improve your existing laminate countertops, you could also consider painting them or applying an epoxy finish.
