"A giant shoutout to Atlanta Air Authority for coming to our rescue this week. We came home from being out of town on Sunday to a hot house. Our A/C unit was toast. Their quick response and fantastic service had us back up and running with a new unit within 3 days. Canâ t say enough good things about them. Definitely check them out next time you need HVAC service!!"

"As usual, whenever we need a service provider, we checked Angie's List for HVAC service and sales.  I called Dayco, a young man promptly answered the phone.  I explained that I was interested in a new 2 ton split system.  He said he would have someone call back shortly.  Shortly, the owner called, we spoke about my needs and made an appointment.
The owner came out to assess our needs, designed a package for us, fully explained the components and installation process.  The next day the Dayco Team was on time, ready to work and removed the old system in very little time.  The new system was installed, we discussed a better location for the thermostat, the Team cleaned up, explained operation of the thermostat and were on their way.  The new Trane system is perfect!
The Dayco Team was prompt, courteous, professional and they delivered what they promised.  I will be replacing another unit this Spring.  There is no doubt in my mind that I will call Dayco.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, government incentives and programs are available to encourage energy-efficient upgrades in many regions. These incentives may include tax credits, rebates, grants, and low-interest loans for homeowners who invest in energy-efficient improvements such as HVAC system upgrades, insulation, and efficient windows. The availability and specific details of these incentives can vary by location, so check with your local government or utility company to explore your options.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

Unfreezing an AC unit is not a DIY project unless the problem is a dirty air filter. Changing out an air filter is easy for homeowners, but otherwise, trying to repair ductwork, refill refrigerant, or replace a blower fan motor are tasks best left to the pros. Otherwise, you could cause further damage to your cooling system or even harm to yourself.

The best way to save money on HVAC repairs is by regularly having your system inspected and maintained. This can prevent bigger problems and costly repairs and replacements in the future. It’s also smart to buy quality equipment and hire companies that provide warranties on equipment and labor. If you need repairs, you may be able to save money by cashing in on rebates and incentives or keeping the area around your HVAC unit clear to shorten the time your contractor needs to spend in your home.
