"Our kitchen sink has been acting up (clogging and backing up) since we moved into this house some 4 years ago. Other local plumbers have come in and tried to solve the issue but none of them were successful. One actually recommended replumbing from the kitchen outward. Thankfully a friend recommended Drain Mechanics. It started with a simple phone call and scheduling process. They had a slot available in one day! The "window" was between 9 and 11 am - hours that we really needed to abide by due to work schedules. Dan, the plumber who was assigned to our job, showed up literally right on time. He called 15 minutes before the window started and advised he was on his way - and he pulled into our driveway right on time. Awesome start so far. Now here is what separates Drain Mechanics from the others. Dan listened patiently to what we've been through. He watched videos my wife had made and he discussed all of the possibilities. From worst case to most likely, he didn't start taking action until he had enough info to take informed actions. He assessed the situation, scoped the issue and immediately recognized the true issue. There were large clogs deep into the drains that had built up over years and prior plumbing visits had basically pushed the mess down further but had not freed it up. It was at this point he gave us the good news; it was not going to require replacement or anything major. He was going to get it fully unclogged. He worked for a solid 45 minutes using water pressure to push the mess down and out. And it was obvious that his efforts were successful. Noises of freed clogs sounded from the drain as his work paid off and the drain was cleared. He then tested, over and over, to ensure that his work was fully successful. It's been over a week now and we've had NO problems since he worked his magic. Dan and Drain Mechanics understand what it means to take on a job and to get it done right. And we are truly thankful that we now know a plumber who we can trust, with reasonable rates who still cherish the American ideal of doing a good job. Thank-you Dan - job well done by any measure. And thank-you Drain Mechanics for having people like Dan on your payroll!"

"Ricky came to do a simple repair to the drain in the kitchen sink . Took him a few minutes. He asked if I had any other concerns since you have to pay hourly rate might as well make use of the time. The faucet on the sink needed minor fix so he fixed that as well. Nice guy. I would hire him for future work."

"?????????? Absolutely Outstanding Service! I can?t say enough good things about Family Plumbing! I had a major drain line breakage, and they came out right away to diagnose the issue using their camera inspection equipment. From start to finish, they were professional, knowledgeable, and honest ? no guessing games, no upselling, just clear communication and quality work. They walked me through everything they saw on the camera, explained the cause of the problem in detail, and gave me options that fit my budget. The team worked quickly and left everything clean and tidy when they were done. It?s rare to find a company that truly cares about both their work and their customers, but Family Plumbing exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them to anyone in Jensen Beach or the Treasure Coast looking for reliable, trustworthy plumbers. I?ll definitely be calling them again for any future plumbing needs!"

French Drains questions, answered by experts

Yes, frozen pipes can prevent a toilet from working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which means your toilet tank won't be able to refill after a flush. This will prevent the toilet from flushing again. Depending on which lines are frozen, the ice can also block the drain pipe, preventing water from flushing away.

As a temporary workaround, you can manually add water to the tank for each flush. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try filling the toilet bowl or tank with warm water and flushing to help thaw the ice. However, the best long-term solution is to unfreeze the pipes to get your toilet back in working order.

The spin cycle on your washer should initiate draining, but if you still find leftover water in the washing machine tub, you may need to drain it manually. To manually drain a washing machine, you’ll need to turn off the power supply and locate the drain hose, filter, and pump. Open or disconnect these parts and let the water drain into a bucket.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

A good option for opening up and cleaning a sink drain is to use a ¼ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar, along with a rubber stopper to cover the drain while those materials work their magic. After about 15 minutes, you can flush the drain with hot water. In many cases, these materials can scrub out minor clogs and get the drain working properly again. If the issue persists, call in a plumber near you to get the problem permanently fixed.

If your dishwasher isn’t draining, some common causes include a clogged drain filter, drain hose, or air gap. Also, if you have a garbage disposal, a clog in the disposal can back up your dishwasher since they share plumbing, as can a clog in your kitchen sink’s plumbing. A handy DIYer may be able to figure out how to unclog a dishwasher, but you may need to call in a plumber if you can’t locate and clear the clog yourself.
