If your foundation repair claim gets denied, the first step is to carefully read over your policy and denial letter so you understand the reason for the denial. Then, gather evidence and documents that can support your case and appeal the denial with your insurance company. If your insurer does not eventually honor your claim, you may want to file a complaint with the insurance department in your state. In some cases, it may make sense to work with an attorney and file a lawsuit.

Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Efflorescence can damage a concrete slab for two to three years. After that, it resolves on its own once the surrounding salts are gone.

You can patch minor cracks and damage yourself using concrete fillers or mortar. Larger damage may require full replacement of affected slabs. However, water damage to your concrete will never disappear unless you address the root cause causing the water to cumulate. To prevent future damage, you can also waterproof your concrete.
