"If you're going to hire anyone to do your interior painting, this is the man for the job. Joe was prompt, thorough, and brought a lifetime of experience into our project. Integrity was shown at all times. He was more than fair on pricing. This project was completed more than a year and a half ago. As of today, there have been no issues with quality. His techniques were clean. If there were any issues or concerns, he communicated them immediately and was always eager for our input. He is truly a professional of the trade and takes his work seriously. We are completely satisfied and will consider his services in the future if we are ever in need."

"I was preparing my home for sale on a very short deadline. I hired another contractor to perform some renovations and they were not able to meet our deadlines to get the home ready prior to the listing date. I called Painting Plus of Boulder and they were able to send a full crew over to my home and take care of minor drywall repairs, interior wall painting and complete painting of unfinished solid wood doors throughout the home. I stopped by the home to check on progress and the full crew was still working after normal hours to assist us in meeting our listing deadline. The quality of the painting was exceptional and all deadlines were met. After I sold the home I received a call that there was a small problem with the paint on one door and with one call they were able to assist the new owner of the home and resolve the issue. They stand behind their work and do a great job, I recommend Painting Plus of Boulder to anyone needing a great trustworthy painting company."

"Kylan was contracted to stain an old fence. The previous stain was discontinued, so he had to find something else that would match. And it matched perfectly! He was always on time. He left the worksite spotless. And he really does impeccable work. Plus his pricing is very competitive and certainly worth every penny. Now Iâ m tempted to find other projects that require painting!"

"Alain explained everything that was needed to make the necessary repairs before painting the exterior of our house. He replaced the bad siding and trim boards. I watched him paint our neighbors house and that convinced me to have him paint our house. He is very conscientious and pays close attention to details also reasonably priced. I would recommend The House Painters for your job too."

"Hector and Hector Jr. were absolutely fantastic! They painting my entire house inside and out. Every time I run into a neighbor on the street the first thing they say is how impressed they are with the new paint. Not only did they do a great job, but the pricing was very reasonable."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

There are several ways to make a wooden fence more visually appealing and keep it that way for years to come.

  • Treat the fence with a wood sealant to protect it against the elements. It’s recommended to reseal a fence every two to three years, but if you live in a harsh climate, you may want to do it more frequently than that.

  • Restore the fence if it’s old, corroding, or fading. That includes cleaning it and making small repairs where needed.

  • Paint the fence in a color that you like, whether that’s a simple white or more vibrant option. Fences usually need to be repainted every one to three years.

  • Decorate the fence with planters, string lights, birdhouses, mirrors, shutters, and more.

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

You can weather a new wood fence by applying vinegar with steel wool as a way to fade some of the coloring. You may also find it easier to stain your entire fence a new color instead of trying to get newer fence boards to match an older one.
