"Chris Knack and Affordable Kitchen & Bath are beyond awesome. Not only is their work excellent, which it is - they are a rare contractor in that they tell you exactly what they are going to do, how and when they will perform the work and then they do EXACTLY what they told you. The finished product is absolutely beautiful and professional â they certainly pay attention to detail. Our cabinets look better than new. Affordable Kitchen and Bath is an unbelievable contractor that we cannot rave enough about. Needless to say, we highly recommend them to everyone and would not hesitate in hiring them again. "A family-owned business, Johnson Cabinetry & Refacing is run by Carl Johnson; the salesperson is Dusty Johnson; and the lead installer is Scott Johnson. Dusty treated us respectfully and patiently. We wanted to reface the cabinets in our kitchen, utility room, and two bathrooms. Additionally, he helped us plan the understand how to reface the current cabinets and replace the soffits to add more shelves, I thought I'd have to replace the entire cabinet, but Dusty showed us how refacing could work. This meant we saved a lot of money by not needing entirely new cabinets. Finally, we wanted a style that was unusual. Dusty made some calls and returned with a sample cabinet door for us to review for over a week. We liked what we saw and ordered the cabinet refacing. Carl came to our house, answered additional questions and took careful measurements. It took around six weeks to manufacture the cabinet doors and drawers. Scott was a true professional, always arrived on time. Friendly but focused and efficient. It took Scott and his assistant, John, a little over a week to complete 90% of the job (remember it was four rooms). The last 10% was completed several weeks later, when additional parts came in. We changed our minds about drawer and cabinet handles. Plus, a couple doors were not quite right and Scott and Carl wanted them to be perfect. The final product was finished expertly from top to bottom. Our cabinets are beautiful. They brighten our room. We now have a place for everything! The cabinets are very durable and easy to clean. We now have soft-close cabinet doors and drawers. Plus, we were able to get drawer inserts for utensil and silverware. All-in-all, a great upgrade. Being patient turned out really well for us. I definitely recommend Carl Johnson's John Cabinetry & Refacing."

"I recently hired Matt to install a garbage disposal, kitchen faucet and rain showerhead in one of my bathrooms. He expertly installed all and suggested I replace the plastic safety water lines under the kitchen sink with steel braided ones. So I picked them up and he came back and changed them out at no extra charge! Great customer service and reasonably priced. I will definitely be using Matt's handyman services again!"

Small jobs welcome

"Joe did an excellent job on multiple projects, including cabinet repair, patio pavers, drywall, and bath hardware issues. We were impressed by his ability to trouble shoot difficult issues. He was professional and hardworking. I’d absolutely recommend him to anyone and will call him again. I also appreciate his honesty with not taking on projects that were out of his scope."

"We are absolutely thrilled with the work White Cliff Designs did on our kitchen cabinets. We were looking to update our kitchen cabinets without the cost and hassle of a full remodel, and their cabinet refinishing service/ built in addition was the perfect solution! The entire process was seamless from start to finish. The team was incredibly professional, communicative and transparent about the timeline and the process. The attention to detail was exceptional, from the thorough prep work to the final, smooth finish on the cabinets. It's clear they use high-quality materials, as the end result looks and feels like a brand-new kitchen. The transformation is simply stunning. The color is exactly what we wanted, and it has completely transformed our space. We couldn't be happier with our "new" kitchen and highly recommend White Cliff Designs for any cabinet remodeling or painting project. They truly exceeded our expectations!"

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to install new cabinets depends on the scope of the project. For a kitchen installation, you can expect the process to take anywhere from 2-5 days for a standard layout up to a couple of weeks for more complex projects, depending on the number of cabinets and the installation space. For a smaller project, such as installing cabinets in a bathroom, you can expect the work to take a week or less. Your cabinet installation expert will be able to provide you with a realistic timeframe.

While having an assistant to help ensure safety and to lend a hand is desirable, if someone isn't around to assist, you can install kitchen cabinets on your own. Normal kitchen cabinet installation starts with the upper wall cabinets. If you're working on your own, consider installing the bases first and building a temporary support structure on top of them to help you install the uppers.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

Solid wood is the most common material for cabinet bases. It’s a popular choice because it’s durable and will hold up over time. Oak, maple, cherry, hickory, and pine are all types of solid wood that can be used to build cabinet bases. Other options include plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and other types of manufactured lumber, but they need to be sealed properly to avoid swelling, separating, and delamination from moisture.

It depends on whether you buy pre-made stacked cabinets or construct them from scratch. If you build added cabinets from scratch, you can expect it to take several hours or days to build each one and then another two to three days for installation. Then, after painting your new cabinets, you should allow a few weeks for the paint to dry thoroughly before installing them over your existing cabinets.
