"The plumber spent a lot of time just trying to figure out the source of the hidden leak. He had a lot of patience. The quality of work was good as was the price. I would definitely hire them again."

They carefully explained the process and handled everything with precision, from excavation to installation. The quality of their work is evident, and they made sure to leave the area clean and tidy once the job was done. I?m impressed with their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction. "Sergio turned up a little late but he's a friendly and pleasant guy so I wasn't too bothered about that. He looked at the toilet and said that unfortunately it wasn't a 'standard' gasket, that he didn't have one and that it wouldn't be covered under that $49 tune up. I had pretty much expected this and so I guess you could say I wasn't disappointed. But I was rather shocked at the quoted price of $175. Now I get it, plumbers have to make a living and they do warranty their work but this felt a bit like a bait and switch. Why offer a $49 tune up and then charge a huge amount for a $7 part that it took him less than 5 minutes to install? Now I know what the part is and how fast an expert installed it, I've looked it up on YouTube, seen how easy it is and will of course do it myself in future! I had waited to have the toilet done for quite a while, anticipating that some other, larger and more difficult job would arise. As it turned out, Sergio tested the water pressure in the house and it was right at the maximum permitted amount as he showed me. So he offered me a deal whereby I would not have to pay to have the toilet fixed but would pay $670 to have a new regulator installed. Having checked the internet to see that in fact 80psi is the max safe pressure in a house, I decided to go ahead and have him do that job and save myself potential issues down the line with plumbing breaking inside the house to possibly disastrous effect. Sergio is a capable guy, he's friendly and seems to have done a good job. I just wish that they didn't have this $49 'deal' going which I suspect is most likely hardly ever honoured as advertised. I've said I would not hire them again but would have preferred to say 'not sure' because the job was done well and quickly, despite a long wait while he sought out parts at local suppliers, which maybe balances out my feeling of being misled."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

An active cleaning agent and a drain snake is the best way to clean a main sewer line. You can purchase a regular or enzyme drain cleaner or make a DIY drain cleaner with baking soda. Use your chosen solution at least once a month or as needed to keep your sewer line clear.

Replacing a toilet typically takes two to four hours. Several factors can impact this timeline, including the condition of the old toilet, flange, flooring, and pipes. If a professional discovers issues like a cracked flange, damaged flooring, leaky pipes, or a broken wax ring, the installation will take longer. Additionally, some toilets, such as wall-mounted or in-wall-tank models, are more complex to install and may require cutting into and repairing drywall, which adds to the project time. Given the weight of toilets and the importance of proper placement, it is often best to hire a professional for the job.

The maximum distance between a washer drain vent and the drainpipe depends on pipe size. A one-and-a-half-inch drainpipe can be no more than 42 inches from the drain vent, a 2-inch drainpipe can be no more than 5 feet away, a 3-inch pipe can be up to 6 feet away, and a 4-inch pipe can be up to 10 feet away.

Almost all plumbers have emergency service options and 24/7 numbers you can call for service during off-hours like in the evening. But be careful before you dial: Plumbers will charge extra fees for off-hour services, even if the cost isn’t quite as high as a weekend visit. Expect to pay around 1½ times more than the usual rates for plumbers in your area for off-hour calls.

A pipe burst will cause a portion of the water flowing into your home to escape through the damaged area, but some water is still likely to flow to your plumbing fixtures. If you’re noticing reduced water pressure or the slow flow of water from your sinks, you might have a burst pipe on your hands, especially if the weather is particularly cold outside. When in doubt, call in a plumber to inspect your system and check for leaks.
