"This was a difficult project, owing to the no-cripple-wall construction of my house and the ridiculously tight crawl space - less than a foot in critical spots - plus the maze of beams and ducts. I called six or seven plumbers to come out and bid the work and two of them ran screaming (well, not really, they just told me they needed to work up an estimate 'back at the office' and never called back). One guy swore I'd have to rip out a wall AND the floor to get to the pipe. Mr. Rooter didn't propose anything so dramatic. They just said they'd excavate as needed to make room to move around. So that's what they did. They billed it as a two-day job. They showed up on time, and the work was wrapped up by the third hour of the second day. Because that, I was concerned this job had been overbilled. Their bid had been astronomical, but it was still lower than everyone's except the guy with the lapsed bond. Mr. Rooter had been willing to negotiate and I knocked about $650 off their initial bid. They took another $200 off at the back end because of my concern with overbilling. They didn't have to do that since they had a signed contract in hand, but they were willing to take care of a customer. Thumbs up for that. The work looks solid, as far as this layman can tell. Everything drains as it should and none of the joints leak."

"Kevin was very communicative and professional. He really worked hard on this project. I ended up replacing my Toto toilet because it was too hard to find replacement parts. We could get some, but not all, and I had to visit 2 different plumbing parts companies who gave me the wrong parts. Too much work that took too much time, but I learned a lot! I am SO glad that Kevin and his assistant, Herbert, gave me the option to replace. Thank you, Kevin, you will now be my go to plumber!"

"Personable, easy to work with and good listeners. I was pleased with the installation of the tankless water heater. It was professionally done, appearance of piping was good and upon completion they left the work site clean. Advised on other plumbing projects that could be beneficial to me and I appreciated the fact that Caesar corrected a wrong installation under the sink. I definitely and highly recommend Cal-Tech to friends and anyone who needs any sort of plumbing projects done. LNT :)"

"I purchased a water heater from Do It Right Plumbers . The tech, Chris, was on time and very thorough The installation went as smooth as could be. When the work was finished, you wouldn't have known any work had been done. It was that clean. Not only would I recommend them, but I also plan to use them in the future for my plumbing needs."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

After finishing plumbing work in CA, schedule a final inspection to officially close out any required city permits. Run your taps to check for discoloration or sediment, since local groundwater contains elevated mineral content. Inspect any water softeners or filtration systems to ensure proper connections. Finally, confirm your water heater has double strapping to meet current state seismic safety codes.

Helpful?

Simultaneous slow drains or unexplained wet patches in your yard indicate a damaged main sewer line. In older Whittier homes, systemwide low water pressure or rusty water signals failing galvanized steel pipes that require a full replacement. Additionally, widening foundation cracks near bathrooms point to a serious slab leak caused by local expansive soils and active fault lines.

Helpful?

When hiring for plumbing in Whittier, verify the professional holds an active state license and carries required workers' compensation and liability insurance. Look for contractors familiar with local expansive soils in the Puente Hills foothills and aging cast iron pipes common in historic neighborhoods. A knowledgeable professional will also understand local water pressure norms and manage the city permit process for you.

Helpful?

Keep your family safe during plumbing work by securing open trenches with sturdy barriers. In pre-1986 California homes, flush all taps for several minutes after major work to clear potential lead solder or pipe scale. Since local summers get exceedingly hot, prepare alternative drinking water sources for pets. Finally, teach household members exactly where the main shutoff valve is located.

Helpful?

Start your plumbing planning by confirming city permit requirements for your specific project. Locate your property’s main water shutoff valve in advance, as older Whittier homes often have obscured meters. Assess your home for aging galvanized steel or cast iron pipes that require replacement. You must also check for flexible gas connectors and seismic shut-off valves to ensure proper earthquake preparedness.
