"I have hired AA Tree care 3 times for tree trimming and removal, and each time, the service was excellent. Albert is pleasant, intelligent, respectful, honest. His crew is professional, efficient and they left the work site even cleaner than before they came. I will continue to hire them for future jobs."

"I had heard that this company was the best and were professional arborists so I braced myself for the estimate. Other less trained companies had come and estimated the job around $1000. The representative looked at the trees and told me that my gardener had been doing a good job pruning, and that it would be best to let him continue, and wait another year. He was interested in protecting the health of the trees, not just a quick profit like other companies had been. This is the sign of a true professional. When the trees get overgrown, I will only contact them."

"Beside being very professional and highly skilled, they are the most friendly and fun people to work with. Janie was most helpful on the business side of it. She's like the old days, her word is her bond. Yes I will definitely have Bailey Tree Company do more work for me. Oh, I don't want to forget the cleanup was absolutely great!"

"These guys were great. They stacked all the wood neatly and out of the way. And cleaned up the area before they left. Their quote was almost half that of other arborists."

Small jobs welcome

"I loved these guys! They came in to remove a tree between a fence line and ground the stump down. Everyone else I contacted would only cut the tree and wanted twice as much. They did a fantastic job and respected my property. They were here on time and were finished faster then I expected. I have recommended them to a few neighbors who also need work done."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

There are a few general rules to follow that will help you prune your trees correctly. One of the most important rules is to prune during the correct season for the type of tree you have. Typically, pruning should be during late winter. For younger trees, you should not remove more than a ⅓ of the tree's crown when pruning. Also, remember to remove dead and diseased branches first, then proceed with pruning the rest of the tree.
