"Mike did a great job for me. Installed a new kitchen faucet and supply line shut off valve. He was in and out in ~1.5 hours. Reasonable price. He also gave me some tips for my pending dishwasher instalation. I'd hire Mike again, for sure."

"Mike Counsil Plumbing is a well-run company. They sent Victoria out the day after we called. She gave us two estimates for two options, described what she needed to do, went to get a part she needed, came back, worked diligently, and had everything done in a few hours. She walked us through the contract we signed and left us with materials including a monthly service option we could purchase. Victoria was really pleasant and the job looks great. We had hired another firm to replace out water heater and they mislead us, overcharged us, and did a sloppy job that didn't pass inspection. We hired Mike Counsil to fix it. Victoria pointed out problems that I hadn't noticed and fixed them."

"Evan did a fantastic job for us. He installed a brand-new toilet and rebuilt the internals of another one, and it’s clear he really knows his trade. Everything was done carefully and professionally, and both toilets are working perfectly now. He showed up on time, communicated clearly about what needed to be done, and his pricing was fair and transparent. He left the work area clean, which we really appreciated. Evan is also a great guy to have around while the work is being done — very personable and full of great stories. It made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a plumber who knows his stuff and takes pride in his work, I’d definitely recommend Evan."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Ejector pumps can only push sewage 750 feet or less. That’s because their purpose is to move waste from your home to your sewer line—which is a relatively short distance. Grinder pumps can transport sewage further, but they manage lower volumes of waste than ejector pumps (and they don’t work with septic systems).

Yes, you can water plants with water softened with potassium chloride. Potassium is a vital nutrient for plants, so using this type of water is harmless and can even be enriching. It is often a better option than water softened with sodium chloride, as too much sodium can build up in the soil and make it difficult for plants to absorb the water they need. If you notice that your plants are not tolerating the treated water, try letting it sit in a watering can for one to five days to allow the chlorine to diminish.

You can use a water gauge to check that water pressure, which should be between 40 and 60 PSI. If you don’t have a water gauge, you can also time how long your showerhead takes to fill up a 1-liter container. If it takes longer than 6 seconds, you’re dealing with a case of low water pressure.

First, check that you have cut off the water supply to your toilet. This is a project that can only be done safely if running water cannot reach your toilet fixture. If you're seeing water trickle out after you've confirmed that the water supply is shut off, you can probably rest assured that what you're seeing isn't a problem. It's common for leftover water to spill out when you're removing your toilet's fill valve. If something goes wrong while you're working on your toilet, you'll need to look at your home's policy to see if your homeowner insurance covers water damage.

The best place for a kitchen sink drain is the middle of the sink. Most people prefer center drains because they allow for better water and waste drainage, and the center location limits splashing because water flows straight down the drain hole. If the sink drain is too close to the edge of the sink, water can collect and drain too slowly. It can also be easier to clean sinks when the drain is closer to the center since debris is easier to wash down and doesn’t collect along the sides as easily.
