"Ted and his partner were punctual, professional, and helpful. There work was very neat and all their work passed inspection without an issue. Ted was present during the initial inspection and helped me through the process. Ted was personable and answered all my questions and he was willing to help in any way he could. "Ray was instrumental in upgrading the electrical in my townhome, including installing new recessed lights, light fixtures, replacing receptacles with new ones and modern cover plates. He also relocated and installed a new subpanel providing dedicated circuits to appliances and the newly installed recessed lights. Ray is incredibly knowledgeable and very easy to work with and I would recommend him and happily use his services again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The main reason outlets become loose is because the contact points have started to wear down after years of use. Occasionally, poor wiring can cause heat or sparks that can damage the outlet and cause it to become loose. Either way, if your plugs slide out after being inserted into the outlet, it’s time to replace it.

You can distinguish the amplitude and voltage of most outlets by looking at the shape and positioning of the holes. Other features like buttons, switches, and USB ports help identify electric outlets, too. Use labeled images, like the ones we’ve included above, to cross-reference with your outlets.

Licensed electricians should perform work for safety reasons; improper installations can prove hazardous or result in code violations currently.

Many homes have a 200-amp service, which requires a 2-inch electrical meter riser. Larger homes or homes that require more energy for several appliances and devices may have a 400-amp service. For 400-amp service, opt for a 4-inch electrical meter riser.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.
