Small jobs welcome

"Borja Unique Masonry I highly recommend Borja Unique Masonry for professional and artistic construction in stone. Their work is outstanding and they are very amicable to work with every step of the way. I have dreamed of having a flagstone patio in back of our home for the past few years. When we were ready to have one installed, we went to the Tucson dealer with flagstone on site, chose the color, and asked about installation. They referred us to some local masonry businesses. After meeting with and receiving quotes from a couple, we hired Borja. Mr. Borja was great to work with. He listened carefully to our description of what we wanted. He gave us lots of helpful information about the project, asked us questions about exactly what we envisioned, and was very professional and pleasant in all of our contacts. He kept us well informed each step of the way and always asked if we had any questions or concerns, striving to make sure everything would be just as we wished. The work crew took great care to excavate and prepare the area, checking the slope for drainage as they progressed. We enjoyed watching them place the â puzzle piecesâ to create a beautiful and sturdy patio. The finished patio is beyond our expectations! Itâ s gorgeous and will serve us as an outdoor relaxation and entertainment area for many years to come. Thank you, Borja Unique Masonry."

"The work went incredibly well; there were some large cracks in the outside walls. One was coming from the foundation, while others were higher; the masonry work required expertise, and it was quite competently completed."

"LHB did excellent work! In two days they removed our old patio deck that was heaved and broken by tree roots and poured a new slab that we really like. If we, or anyone in our HOA, needs concrete work done in the future we know who to call. Highly recommend!"

"I hired Dalinghaus to lift my house and replace the post and pier foundations in addition to the girder beams. Isaac coordinated the whole job and was great to work with. They did such an excellent job at a good price I wish I could hire them for additional improvement and repair on my old house."

"This was a property under contract during inspection period. Jack McGuire was very professional, definitely seemed very knowledgeable and an expert about foundations and explained everything. We decided to not go through with the purchase of the property; if we had bought it, we would definitely have hired Mr. McGuire to fix the foundation, which certainly needed it."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Cobblestone is not a type of rock but a term for a mosaic or rock laid down as a surface. It used to be made from the closest available stone but now can be made from nearly any hard rock, as machining has made shaping the stone much easier and cheaper.

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.

Cobblestone fell out of favor with the advent of motor vehicles. Asphalt and concrete are both much smoother surfaces allowing for a smoother ride. Asphalt is also much cheaper, especially for driveways. However, we didn’t stop using cobblestone altogether, and you can still see it as a decorative option in both homes, in parks, and in pedestrianized areas of cities.

Stone can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years before it needs to be restored. You should clean your stone flooring or countertops regularly using cleaners designed for stone surfaces. Stay on top of vacuuming to prevent scratches from deteriorating stone faster, deep clean your stone surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaning solution at least once a year, and reseal the stone every one to five years, depending on foot traffic or usage.

If you’re attempting to mix and pour your own mortar, expect to pay between $5 to $10 for an 80-pound bag of mix. The cost to repair mortar, however, can range from $300 to $500 for a 20-square-foot wall. The larger the area and the more extensive the repair, the higher the cost.
