"The Arborist came and reviewed the work I was asking to be done and explained in detail what should be done. I was given a price and then he deducted for the Angie's List discount. The price was terrific based on the other 3 quotes I was given for the same work. There were 3 crews (1 for feeding, etc., 1 for tree/trunk grinding, 1 for tree trimming and removal. All 3 crews arrived on time, were professional, reviewed the work to be done in advance and at completion, and were friendly. The work was completed as expected, the clean up was great, and I am completely satisfied and would use them again in the future."

"First of all, I appreciated that a certified arborist was on our job. We have two beautiful trees in our front yard that needed to be trimmed, thinned and shaped. I appreciated that all of the workers were easy to communicate with and that their service truck looked like someone cared about their image. Attention to details like this gave me assurance that my trees would receive the same attention to detail. I especially liked that an actual, pleasant person answers the phone. If you have trees you care about, call Tree Logic!"

"Because of the substantial storm of August 2nd, I ended up with a toppled Chilean mesquite tree in my front yard. I called around for tree removal companies and received quotes from $700 to $1,000 and up to a month wait time. I sent The Hungry Tree an email asking them if they could do the work. They initially gave me an appointment of August 16th and I felt that this was a reasonable time due to the amount of work that they had. Stephany told me that she might be able to get me in sooner. When I called a short time later to get a quote, she requested a photo for the arborist to estimate from. I sent her the photo and told her that the tree had mostly been sectioned up so that we could use the garage. When Stephany called back minutes later, she said that the arborist could be at my house in 30 minutes and give me an estimate in person. I agreed. A short time later, Juan Martinez arrived and told me that he and his crew could have it cleaned up within 30 minutes and at a price no one could come close to. I agreed and they had the front yard looking immaculate within 30 minutes. They cleaned up the street in front of the house and the neighbor's driveways. I haven't been this impressed with a business in many years! If you need tree service or tree removal in metro Phoenix, call The Hungry Tree. They are professionals who care about their work and satisfying customers!"

"They are very thorough, and made sure all of the spiderwebs were gone around the patio and front door. They always ask if we have had any pests, and will treat for those too. If you develop a problem betweeen monthly appointments, you just have to call and they will take care of the problem.

"Earth First Landscaping removed my old irrigation system, then replaced it with a new one. A fantastic job with kind, knowledgable workers. Robert suggested a couple improvements his team could make, and I approved them both. Prompt service both days, and kept me informed as work was done. I definitely recommend this company, and would rate them higher than 5 stars if I could. 🙂"

"We are so happy with the way our yard looks now! We hired L&M landscaping a while back to remove some trees and trim. This week they just finished up our back yard project: patio overlay and extends into yard with pavers, artificial grass, planting, hooking up water to the plants, & the final touch of adding landscape lighting. The yard looks beautiful! We were pleased with Matt’s responsiveness, communication about logistics was easy, and the crew was hard working, completed the project in a week. Luis and Matt (and their crew) were great to work with. We would gladly use them again for any future needs!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees don’t usually grow back after being cut down. Some particularly robust tree species may start sending up new stems from a stump to recover, but those stems won’t become a “tree” like before. Generally, trees don’t recover from being entirely cut down, which is why it’s important to be careful when making a decision. When you cut down a tree, it’s a good idea to make plans to remove the stump, even if it’s unlikely to grow back.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

While the trees in your backyard are good for the environment and look beautiful, they could present a danger to your home under the wrong circumstances. This task is typically beyond the capabilities of the average homeowner due to its dangerous nature, so it’s best to leave this task to a professional. In some cities, it’s even illegal to remove a tree yourself.

The cost of trees varies massively based on the size of the tree and the species. A small Colorado spruce can cost as little as $30, but a golden rain tree of the same size can cost $90. Large trees can cost $1,500 or more, depending on their species and height.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.
