"For the project, we received five bids ranging from $475 to $1200. Of the five, The Cutting Edge was the only individual who took the time to check on whether his stump grinder could make its way to the back yard through a narrow gate passageway. He also was the only one who discussed stump grinding in regard to how deep they would reduce the stump below ground level. He provided a written proposal during the meeting. Once we decided to select The Cutting Edge to do the work, a date was scheduled for the work to be done. The five person crew arrived on time in two trucks: one towing a stump grinder, the other towing a large cart for branches. They went to work right away, the owner first trimmed off branches while others carted them around the house and loaded up the cart. As the cart got full, a worker used a chain saw to cut up the branches so more could settle into the truck. As work continued, workers would rake up debris around the truck out at the road. Cutting down the tree took little time: branches gave way to a standing trunk which led to one of the workers climbing up in the tree to cut off larger pieces which fell to the ground. Large garbage barrels were placed upside down over nearby plants to protect them from anything falling. When the tree trunk was down to about 7 feet tall, the owner used a larger chainsaw to take it down pieced by piece until the stump was left a few inches above ground. They then brought in the stump grinder. With garbage barrels positioned to make sure nothing flew toward the house, the stump grinder did its work. Lots of shredded stump remained which was swept up, with raking of the area to finish the job. Suffice it to say, this was a professional operation that ran very smoothly with a pleasant crew all who seemed to be well versed in their duties. While the owner took charge and managed the removal, others on the crew did some of the major parts; i.e., this was not just one fellow with expertise but instead a good solid crew where everyone seemed to be skilled."

"The crew was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional - and my trees look fantastic! I needed major pruning on 6 trees and they did a great job making sure the trees were healthy and stable and also cleaning up the yard afterwards. I can’t wait to finally enjoy my backyard now that it’s not so overgrown!"

"I got a good price from other tree removal companies but hired Branching Out Tree Service because they were very friendly and were the only ones that could provide proof of Workman Compensation Insurance (to protect their workers and me in case on an accident for this big and risky job). They arrived with a big crane right on time early morning and did a perfect job. They were very professional, clean, super organized, they were done quickly and left my front yard in perfect shape. Their Office manager and office staff replied to all my emails quickly and answered all my questions before I decided to hire them. I highly recommend them for big and risky jobs, as well as small jobs because of their overall impeccable professionalism."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

An arborist specializes in tree care, performing tasks such as pruning, treating diseases, and removing hazardous trees. They also assess soil conditions, plant trees, and develop landscaping plans to ensure healthy growth. They also manage debris cleanup, inspect equipment, and record maintenance activities. Arborists often collaborate with landscapers and professional tree maintenance services, applying their specialized knowledge and problem-solving skills to maintain tree health and safety.

Early signs that a tree is struggling include premature leaf shedding and lesions or other strange markings. Peeling bark, dead or rotten branches on the ground, and a conspicuous lack of leaves can all be signs that a tree has started to die. By the time a tree starts leaning, it’s usually too far gone to save.

The shepherd’s tree, native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, holds the record for the deepest known tree roots at over 230 feet deep. Some African communities refer to it as the “Tree of Life” since it provides food, shade, and medicinal properties to the surrounding community.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

It's easy to misidentify trees that appear to be maple trees due to similarities in leaf shapes. Sweetgum, sycamore, and yellow poplar all have leaf shapes and appearances similar to maples. The fact that around a dozen maple tree varieties exist, only about half of which are considered common, makes misidentification an often typical occurrence.
