After meeting with Sales Rep Ryan Latko and finding out that Mad City Home Improvement had a lifetime, transferable non-prorated all-inclusive warranty, I gladly picked out all the items I would need for my shower and said to get me on the schedule for my install. And then on Tuesday, November 25, Walter showed up to do my demolition and new install. Walter worked all day Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (Thursday was Thanksgiving) and I could not be more pleased with the final product – my new and exciting walk-in shower. I spent time each day watching Walter work, asking questions, and making a photo diary of the entire process. If I had to tell someone what I thought of Walter, I would say he was extremely personable, a definite perfectionist, and an absolute wonderful individual as a person and as an employee of Mad City Home Improvement. I guess you can tell at this point that I am 100% satisfied with the entire process to get my new and beautiful walk-in shower and would highly recommend Mad City Home Improvement to anyone who is considering this kind of addition to their own home. "Had an old fixture above kitchen sink go kaput (fluorescent starter disintegrated), so Cardinal came out and offered LED alternatives (two provided, brought on-hand from supply warehouse). Also fixed a switched outlet that had shorted out. Great work done, nice alternatives for the LED light, and switched outlet was wired to be always-on for one socket and switched for the other -- better than it was before at no additional cost. Later I called to ask the exact serial and model number of the LED light because the papers left did not state it. Not only did I get an email a couple hours later with the model/serial, the tech included the detailed documentation for the fixture so if anything goes wrong I can likely fix it myself next time. The tech who did the work also applied a 10% off discount card for me with no extra hassle, saving me close to $100 on the work."

The standard copper wire gauge to use with any 30-amp circuit is a 10-gauge wire. The National Electric Code specifies a 10-gauge wire with appliances like water heaters running on 30 amps. If you try to use a smaller gauge wire, such as a 12 gauge, with a 30-amp breaker, you run the risk of the wire overheating and melting or causing a fire. Because of the safety hazards, the gauge of the wire is not an area to try to cut costs when connecting a 30-amp breaker to a water heater.

The time it takes to replace a water heater depends on the complexity of the job. Expect your contractor to spend:

  • One to three hours on a standard tank-style water heater replacement

  • Two to three hours on a tankless water heater replacement

  • Four to six hours replacing a tank-style water heater with a tankless water heater

  • One hour for each additional parallel or point-of-use water heater

Your project will take longer if you’re switching fuel sources, upgrading to tankless, or relocating your water heater.
